Vitória do Xingu received 200 thousand fingerlings for distribution to local breeders

With the aim of strengthening aquaculture production in western Pará, the Government of Pará, through the Secretary of Agricultural Development and Fishing (Sedap), delivered 240 thousand tambaqui fingerlings during the first half of July 2025. The action benefited fish farmers in Vitória do Xingu, Santarém, Belterra, and Mojuí dos Campos, which is expected to generate over R$ 1.5 million in the regional economy.

Of the total, 200 thousand fingerlings were delivered to the municipality of Vitória do Xingu, which has a municipal station with two tanks and its own nursery for receiving and distributing fish to local breeders. Another 40 thousand fingerlings were allocated to family fish farmers in the metropolitan region of Santarém. The transportation of the fingerlings to Vitória do Xingu was carried out with a truck equipped with oxygenated boxes, ensuring the quality and safety of the animals during the journey.

The Secretary of Agriculture of Vitória do Xingu, Wiliam Alves, highlighted the importance of the action for small producers. “This delivery represents more than an incentive; it is a real opportunity for growth for our breeders. With the technical support of Sedap and the infrastructure of our municipal station, we are ensuring that the fingerlings arrive in good condition to those who need them most, fostering local production, generating jobs, and strengthening the rural economy,” said the secretary.

The action is technically monitored by teams from Sedap, under the coordination of biologist Zacarias Marques, a professional with over 30 years of experience in the aquaculture field. Continuous technical support has been essential to ensure good management and the success of production, especially among small fish farmers.

Coordinator of Sedap in Santarém, Otávio Macedo also celebrated the positive impact of the initiative. “The delivery of fingerlings is a strategic action that complements ongoing technical assistance to fish farmers. We see in practice how much this contributes to strengthening the productive chain of family aquaculture in the region. It is the state government making its presence felt and delivering results,” he stated.

For the regional government secretary of Baixo Amazonas, Nélio Aguiar, the delivery of fingerlings reaffirms the state government's commitment to sustainable development in the region.

“This is yet another concrete action from Governor Helder's administration in favor of family farming and the rural economy of Baixo Amazonas. We are talking about an investment that has a direct impact on the lives of hundreds of families, stimulates the economy, and promotes dignity in the countryside. Fish farming is a natural vocation of our region, and the state has been doing its part to provide all the necessary support,” emphasized Nélio.

The delivery of fingerlings took place at the Santa Rosa Fish Farming Station, run by Sedap, in the municipality of Santarém. The unit is one of the main references in fingerling production in the region and plays a fundamental role in the internalization of sustainable development.

With actions like this, the Government of Pará continues to advance in strengthening aquaculture as a strategic vector for regional development, expanding opportunities, income, and food security for thousands of families in Pará.
