Regional Hospital of Santarém is a reference in prenatal care and provides guidance on gestational diabetes
Patients receive information on prevention and treatment of the disease

Renata Campos Castro, 38 years old, is expecting her second daughter, Maria Ivy. She is receiving prenatal care at the Dr. Waldemar Penna Regional Hospital of Lower Amazon (HRBA) in Santarém, western Pará. Renata receives all the necessary medical follow-up for her pregnancy, as well as important information about the prevention and care of diseases such as gestational diabetes.
"During my pregnancy, I started to take much better care of myself. So, I found this guidance interesting. Thank God we have professionals to alert us about this," highlighted Renata. She and other patients, who are monitored by HRBA professionals, received guidance on the treatment of gestational diabetes, which is the increase of glucose levels during pregnancy and can cause complications for the health of the woman and the baby.

The nurses and technicians from the outpatient unit decided to alert the women they serve about the risks of this disease. "We decided to talk about this topic because we receive many pregnant women with this condition. We discuss how to prevent and treat it, the importance of care, and how to properly monitor it," explained Julianne Sousa, the coordinator of the specialties outpatient clinic.
Prenatal Care - The Regional Hospital of Santarém is a reference in high-risk prenatal care and serves pregnant women from all over western Pará with obstetric consultations, always on Mondays and Tuesdays. HRBA provides follow-up to patients who have health conditions or risk factors that may lead to complications during pregnancy.

Only in 2025, from January to June, the unit had 401 appointments for consultations. Last month, 70 patients were attended by HRBA professionals.
"In addition to the essential follow-up in prenatal care, we understand that these moments of guidance and information are also important, so that our patients can prevent diseases and know what to do to protect their health and that of their babies. It is part of our commitment to provide excellent assistance," emphasized the general director of HRBA, Matheus Coutinho.

The unit provides 100% referenced service, attending to the demand originating from the State Regulation Center. The Hospital belongs to the Government of Pará and is managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), located at Avenida Sérgio Henn, No. 1,100, in the Diamantino neighborhood, in Santarém.
