Government strengthens public security with the delivery of video monitoring totems in Tucuruí
The equipment is part of the "Smart Cities" project that strengthens the partnership with municipalities, aiming to enhance security actions through the use of technology.

The Government of Pará, through the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), has reinforced investments in public security with the delivery of two video monitoring totems in Tucuruí, southeastern Pará, this Wednesday (23). The equipment, already in full operation, is installed in strategic locations: one in the Tucunaré Square and the other in the Rotary Square, expanding the monitoring strategy in areas with high foot traffic and ensuring prompt response to urgent and emergency occurrences.

During the delivery ceremony, the State Governor, Helder Barbalho, emphasized the important agenda that was fulfilled in Tucuruí, with investment in technology for public security.
“This equipment has cameras with 360º vision, is shockproof, and is connected to the State's integrated monitoring system, including facial recognition and vehicle plate reading. If it identifies someone wanted by Justice, it automatically alerts the CIOp. Additionally, the totem has an emergency button that connects directly to the central, allowing any citizen to request immediate support from the Military Police. This is another action that integrates technology and visible presence to promote safety and peace for the population,” said Helder Barbalho.
The security totems were installed in two squares of the municipality, Rotary and Tucunaré, considered high-traffic points, in order to enhance video monitoring in the surrounding area, deter criminal actions, and facilitate quick response to occurrences, should the population need to activate the security system in emergencies. The equipment is monitored 24/7 and directly attended by the Integrated Operations Center (CIOp), ensuring immediate response in case of need.

According to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, the equipment is already available to the population, ensuring both monitoring in the area and facilitating interaction and proximity of the population with security through a direct channel with the Ciop, in addition to the functionalities that are used to assist police teams in investigations.
“The security totems, in use since 2023, are being expanded to more municipalities in Pará as part of the second phase of technology implementation. They encompass various functionalities: facial recognition, vehicle plate reading, direct activation button to the Ciop, and voice message issuance for alerts. There are 100 totems distributed throughout Pará, reinforcing public security both in urgent occurrences and in investigations,” emphasized the head of Segup.
The equipment is part of the "Smart Cities" project that strengthens the partnership with municipalities, aiming to enhance security actions through the use of technology, with video monitoring resources and artificial intelligence.
Currently, the equipment is distributed in several municipalities, such as Belém, Ananindeua, Altamira, Marabá, Santarém, Salinópolis, Marituba, Bragança, Castanhal, and now in Tucuruí.

Municipalities such as Abaetetuba, Barcarena, Breves, Canaã dos Carajás, Cametá, Capanema, Igarapé-Miri, Itaituba, Mãe do Rio, Moju, Paragominas, Parauapebas, Redenção, and Tailândia are also in the process of implementing the equipment, fulfilling the commitment to expand the capacity for video monitoring in Pará's municipalities through technology and artificial intelligence.
A resident of Tucuruí for 40 years, José Ronaldo Furtado, approved the reinforcement that the city receives in public security. “I think it will be much better now; when we need security, we just press the button and call the police. I believe this will help reduce violence and provide more protection for residents,” said the supermarket stock clerk.
Functionality - The totem also has a front camera near the emergency button, allowing the user to interact in real-time with the security agent responding to the call at the Integrated Operations Center of Segup (Ciop), which, when activated, facilitates the transfer of information. Once activated, the occurrence will be recorded, and immediately a team of police officers will be dispatched to the location indicated by the victim for immediate assistance.
Moreover, the Totem operates with embedded artificial intelligence technology, featuring facial and vehicle plate recognition, with the ability to direct messages according to the recognition captured by the cameras, thus assisting in the search for fugitives from Justice as well as stolen vehicles.
