Emater helps settled farmers in Mãe do Rio access rural credit
Resources improve rural activities, such as açaí planting, tambaqui production in dug tanks, and even animal husbandry
Settlers from two federal territories of agrarian reform in Mãe do Rio, on the Rio Capim, are receiving rural credit through projects developed by the local office of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Pará (Emater), with the support of the municipal government.
Through the partnership with the Bank of the Amazon (Basa) and the Federal Savings Bank (CEF), amounts of up to R$ 100,000 are available for families from the communities of Santa Ana do Piripindeua, in the Itabocal settlement, and Ponte Nova, in the Vale do Bacaba settlement, to improve the structure for açaí planting, tambaqui production in dug tanks, and pig farming.
In total, the year 2025 has already accumulated more than 400 financing proposals for family farmers in the municipality. The highlights are lines B and V of the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf) and Acredita.
“The value of the rural credit contract depends on many conditions: prior infrastructure, type of activity, annual income of the individual and the family. What we emphasize is that, increasingly, the process is being streamlined and technological, which sometimes allows for immediate access on-site in the lots,” explains the head of the local Emater office in Mãe do Rio, Jorge Luiz Medeiros, an agricultural technician.
Now in July, in a joint effort by Emater to issue and update national family agriculture registrations (cafs), a preliminary document for qualification for public policies in the agricultural and land sectors enabled at least 30 settlers to acquire credit of up to R$ 12,000, through the Federal Savings Bank.
