HRPM implements Rapid Response Team to enhance user safety
The main objective of the RRT is to reduce response time to critical situations, directly contributing to the decrease in mortality and morbidity.
The management of the Regional Public Hospital of Marajó (HRPM), in Breves, has taken another important step towards continuous improvement in care by implementing, this July, the Rapid Response Team (RRT). This initiative reinforces the management's commitment to safe, humanized, and efficient care for users of the Unified Health System (SUS) in the Marajó archipelago.
The main objective of the RRT is to reduce response time to critical situations, directly contributing to the decrease in mortality and morbidity, as well as strengthening patient safety.
Nurse Ruana Lopes, nursing supervisor, explains that the Rapid Response Team, as the name suggests, is a multiprofessional team prepared to act immediately in the face of clinical emergencies, ensuring an effective response to the patient's needs.
“Composed of strategic professionals, the sector nurse, the on-call physician, the on-call physiotherapist, and the on-call pediatrician. The RRT is activated whenever a patient shows signs of deterioration, according to previously defined clinical criteria,” she informed.
According to Ruana Lopes, the operation occurs as follows: upon identifying an emergency, the team activates one of the two institutional codes used:
• Yellow Code: indicates a clinical crisis that requires rapid intervention, with a response time of up to 5 minutes;
• Blue Code: corresponds to a cardiorespiratory arrest, requiring immediate attention, with a response time of up to 3 minutes.
“Communication between sectors is done through walkie-talkies distributed in the hospitalization areas and with the professionals involved. Each frequency is specific to the on-call staff, either clinical or pediatric, ensuring agility in activation and correct team direction,” concluded the supervisor.
Approval - Reflecting the continuous efforts of HRPM management to promote safety, quality, and humanized care for SUS users, the unit achieved a 99.3% approval rating in the last six months. Among the users who expressed satisfaction with the care provided is Raimundo de Oliveira, 58, who accompanies his father during the hospitalization period at the unit.
“I feel very welcomed. The care from the professionals is great; they do not differentiate between patients; everyone is treated well in the same way. I feel very safe because the professionals convey security and are very competent; it is humanized care. This hospital is a blessing for the population,” concluded the farmer, who extended compliments to the hospital.
Data - In less than a month, the RRT was activated 17 times, showing the importance of the protocol in favor of the impact on the outcome of the hospital care journey for patients. Of the total calls, 71% came from the Medical Clinic and 29% from the Surgical Clinic.
