The State Department of Finance of Pará (Sefa) intensified the inspection of goods in transit at the borders of the State, resulting in 14,340 fines in the first half of 2025. The occurrences total R$ 100,424,574.00 in fines issued, of which 35.71% were paid immediately by the taxpayers of the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS).

“In six months, actions were taken that resulted in more than 14,000 fines, reinforcing Sefa's commitment to combating tax evasion and the irregular entry of goods into the State,” highlighted the Secretary of Finance, René Sousa Júnior.

Between January and June, the tax units in border areas identified 28,719,802 tax documents, an increase of 28.49% compared to the same period in 2024. The economic value of the inspected goods reached R$ 123,382,148,592.00, representing a 14.19% increase. Among the products with the highest volume of seizures are beverages, machinery, and grains.

Transit control units - Pará has eight units for controlling goods in transit, which operate 24 hours a day, inspecting the entry and exit of cargo. “At the tax posts, the cargo and documents are checked to confirm the payment of ICMS. If there are irregularities, a Term of Seizure and Deposit (TAD) is issued,” explained the coordinator of Goods in Transit at Sefa, Volnandes Pereira.

If the tax is not paid within 30 days, the TAD is converted into a notice of infraction. If there is an appeal, the process proceeds to administrative judgment in Sefa's tax litigation.
