Sustainability is highlighted at the Pan-Amazonian Book and Multivoices Fair

The 28th edition bets on sustainable scenography, with local inputs and material reuse to reduce environmental impacts

Promoted by the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Culture (Secult), the 28th Pan-Amazonian Book and Multivoices Fair will take place from August 16 to 22 at the Hangar Convention Center of the Amazon, placing sustainability as the protagonist — not only in the programming, which will have a day dedicated to the Voices of Climate, but also in the design and setup of the space.

According to Rodolfo Castro, project director of Secult, the proposal is that environmental responsibility is present at all stages, from conception to execution.

Secult's project director, Rodolfo Castro, highlights the use of modular structures that can be used in other events

“The scenography was designed to minimize environmental impacts, with modular structures that can be reused in other events, reducing the use of disposable materials and prioritizing locally sourced inputs to decrease the carbon footprint,” emphasizes the director.

Scenography bets on sustainable concept and Amazonian references

Rodolfo explains that during the setup, which began on Tuesday (12) and continues until Friday (15) at the Hangar, the team prioritizes the use of already available and long-lasting materials.

Rodolfo Castro, project director of Secult, says that environmental responsibility is present from conception to execution

“We are reusing fabrics, furniture, and elements from previous editions' scenographies, replacing tarps with meshes, which offer greater resistance and can be reused for much longer,” says Castro.

Among the creative solutions, Rodolfo mentions the use of IBC containers — large containers typically used for storing liquids — transformed into LED-lit cubes.

“They received graphics inspired by the Tapajonic and Marajoara cultures, a direct reference to the regions of this edition's honorees: Mestre Damasceno and Wanda Monteiro,” he reveals.

The setup of the Book Fair prioritizes low environmental impact materials with full reuse possibilities

Modular structures optimize setup and reduce environmental impact

The choice of materials took into account not only the reduced environmental impact but also the possibility of full reuse.

“Hollow and modular structures facilitate disassembly and prolong the lifespan of materials, while the arrangement of internal spaces was designed to make the most of natural light and reduce energy consumption. The decoration combines aesthetics and environmental responsibility, incorporating recyclable elements and maintaining Amazonian cultural references,” adds Rodolfo.

For the public, the director of Secult points out that sustainable scenography is also an invitation to reflection.

“The idea is to show that it is possible to create a grand and beautiful event without giving up environmental awareness. We want each visitor to realize that more sustainable choices are viable and necessary,” concludes Castro.

The Fair will have a day dedicated to the Voices of Climate

Just as the Fair's scenography adopts sustainable solutions, the programming also reinforces this commitment, bringing the environment to the center of discussions.

On Sunday, August 17, the Multivoices Arena will host the special programming Voices of Climate – COP 30, bringing together writers, researchers, leaders, and specialists to reflect on the Amazon, climate change, and Belém's preparations to host the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30).

Check the programming of the Multivoices Arena for the Voices of Climate – COP 30:

3 PM – Conversation circle: “Climate, culture, and popular memory” – Manoel Hítalo (PA) and Tamires Figueiredo (PA) | Mediation: Ruth Ferreira (PA)
4:30 PM – Conversation circle: “Environmental racism” – Edvânia Santos Alves (PA), Jacqueline Guimarães (PA), and Gilmar Pereira da Silva | Mediation: Mônica Conrado (PA)
5:30 PM – Conversation circle: “Women, knowledge, and sustainability” – Cacica Kátia Silene Akratikatêjê (PA) and Auda Piani (PA) | Mediation: Ayra Amana (PA)
7 PM – Chat – Cristina Serra (RJ) and Roberta Sodré (PA)

The proposal is to promote dialogues about the role of the Amazon and traditional populations in environmental preservation, as well as to discuss the challenges and opportunities brought by the realization of COP 30 in Belém.
