The action to protect the rivers of Pará continues continuously through the integrated river bases, providing more security to the population. In a monitoring operation on Thursday (13), through the Integrated River Base "Candiru", located in the Óbidos strait, 225 wild birds were seized from a vessel heading to Monte Alegre, in Baixo Amazonas. The action took place as part of the "Protector of Borders and Boundaries" operation.

The police action began with routine approaches carried out by the River Group (GFLU) in conjunction with Military Police units. Upon checking the ferryboat "Golfinho do Norte", coming from Manaus (AM), 225 birds of the land canary species were discovered, packed in cages inside black plastic bags. Two men were identified as the owners and arrested in the act for environmental crime.

The suspects and the birds were taken to the police authority, as well as to the Municipal Environment Secretary for the necessary measures. The director of the River Group, Colonel José Vilhena, highlights the performance of the river bases.

“The River Group has played a crucial role in combating environmental crimes in our region. Our river bases, strategically positioned, have allowed for more effective action in monitoring and protecting our fauna and flora. The recent seizure of 225 wild birds, which were being illegally transported on a vessel heading to Monte Alegre, is a clear demonstration of our commitment and the efficiency of our work. We will remain vigilant and active in defense of the environment and the biodiversity of our state,” he emphasized.
