An educational health program aimed at encouraging the prevention and fight against the Aedes aegypti mosquito was held on Wednesday (20) by the Eastern Public Regional Hospital (HRPL) in the municipality of Paragominas, southeastern Pará, in commemoration of World Mosquito Day - August 20. The action took place in the central reception of the unit, gathering users and companions.

Nurse Rafaela Cecília Sodré, who led the action, explained that the mobilization for World Mosquito Day is an annual alert to intensify the fight and prevention of diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti, the transmitter of dengue, zika, and chikungunya. "The dissemination of information about mosquitoes helps spread preventive measures, enabling the elimination of breeding sites and stagnant water spots," she emphasized.

Approval – For Leonilda Duarte de Lima, 49 years old, the action was fundamental as it helped to spread a relevant and urgent theme. "I didn't know that today is the day to combat mosquitoes. The action was important to alert people. Where I live, there aren't many mosquitoes, and I've never had dengue. I usually check at home for possible places that can accumulate water," said the receptionist, who attended HRPL for an appointment with the endocrinologist.

World Mosquito Day was established in honor of Ronald Ross, a British doctor who discovered in 1897 that female Anopheles mosquitoes were responsible for transmitting the Plasmodium protozoan, which causes malaria, leading to significant changes in global health policies.

The HRPL has 70 beds, distributed among Surgical Clinic, Medical Clinic, and adult ICU. It offers services in Medical and Surgical Clinics, in specialties such as Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Oncology, General Surgery, and Bucomaxillofacial, in addition to anesthetic support. It also conducts outpatient consultations in various areas, including Cardiology, Urology, Endocrinology, Mastology, and Gynecology.

Service: The Eastern Public Regional Hospital is part of the health network of the Government of Pará, managed by the Instituto Diretrizes, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). HRPL is located at Rua Adelaide Bernardes, s/n, in the Nova Conquista neighborhood, in Paragominas. For more information, call: 0800 580 3291.
