Promoted by the Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará Foundation (FSCMPA), a playful and informative action on breastfeeding was held on the morning of this Wednesday (20), aimed at high-risk pregnant women who are being monitored at the Maternity House, linked to the institution. The action is in homage to "Golden August," a month dedicated to promoting breastfeeding and raising awareness about its importance for the baby's health.

“These are actions that we want to carry out for education and health to strengthen the bond between mother and baby, and also the importance of breastfeeding, to support these mothers who need it. In addition, it promotes the exchange of experiences among them, gives the opportunity to clear doubts and to help each other with their experiences,” explained obstetric nurse Luzia Ribeiro.

The activity was supported by the Association of Doulas of Pará

Hospitalized at Santa Casa since July 14, Bruna Rodrigues is expecting her first child and takes the opportunity to learn more about the child's nutrition. “For me, as a first-time mother, it was all very productive. I will use every detail in breastfeeding my baby regarding the connection, in relation to this exchange that we will have. Everything was very important. It is a difficult process due to my high-risk pregnancy, which is why I am here at Santa Casa being monitored. But I will take everything and keep it in the best way possible,” said Bruna.

Support Group - The activity, which was supported by the Association of Doulas of Pará (Adoupa), also marks the beginning of the actions of the Breastfeeding Support Group of Santa Casa (Game), which will provide pregnant women and new mothers access to information about breastfeeding, through lectures given by qualified health professionals, such as nurses, nutritionists, psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, doctors, and social workers, as well as breastfeeding consultants.

“Santa Casa is expanding this promotion of breastfeeding by also bringing in other pregnant women and new mothers from outside, who can participate, so that this mother with her baby knows where to seek help when she has difficulty breastfeeding. We want to prevent breastfeeding difficulties from pregnancy, and also to talk about milk donation,” emphasized Vanda Marvão, nutritionist at the Human Milk Bank of Santa Casa.

The Game targets pregnant women, new mothers, and their families, both inside and outside Santa Casa. The goal is to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of the baby, and continued breastfeeding up to 2 years or more, providing information and support to pregnant women, new mothers, and their support network.

The lectures on breastfeeding promoted by the group are scheduled to occur twice a month at Santa Casa. The dates for September will be announced in the first week of the month, through the institution's communication channels.
