Jean Bitar Hospital Distributes 'Quick Guide for Companions on Pressure Injury'
The initiative aims to guide family members and companions of patients on prevention, identification, and basic care regarding injuries
The Wound Care Committee, in partnership with the Nursing team at Jean Bitar Hospital (HJB) in Belém, began distributing the “Quick Guide for Companions on Pressure Injury (PI)” in all beds of the institution on the morning of this Friday (22).
The material contains guidance for family members and companions of patients on the prevention, identification, and basic care regarding pressure injuries, a common condition in people who remain bedridden for long periods, which can compromise the quality of life of users.

The guide presents essential information, such as what pressure injuries are and their stages; daily skin care for patients; recommendations for hygiene and hydration; and guidance on changing positions in bed.
The guide also warns about risk signs, with an alert to immediately notify the medical and nursing teams at any indication of injury.

According to nurse and president of the Wound Care Committee, Raquel Oliveira, the initiative reinforces the institution's commitment to humanizing care and patient safety. “We created the content with the aim of increasingly reducing the incidence of pressure injuries, providing more knowledge not only for the multiprofessional team but also for the patient and their companion,” highlighted the professional.
Prevention - Jean Bitar Hospital continues to promote educational and assistive practices that strengthen the prevention of complications and the protagonism of families in the care process. “We already had this precaution, but the action came to strengthen it. Of course, we will multiply this knowledge to others, as it is not good for the patient to undergo treatment and acquire another issue,” said Jorgiovana Mendonça, 54 years old, a resident of Belém, who is accompanying her husband, who underwent a cervical biopsy and is hospitalized at HJB.
The unit's Care Manager, Alexandra do Carmo, emphasized that the purpose “is to strengthen the partnership between the hospital professionals and the patients' families, promoting the humanization of care and the complete recovery of the user. Caring is an act of love, and when shared, it becomes even more effective.”
From January to July of this year, HJB performed 1,898 hospitalizations and recorded a user satisfaction rate of 94.17% just in July.

Service: Jean Bitar Hospital belongs to the public health network of the Government of Pará and is managed by the National Institute for Social and Human Development (INDSH), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa).
HJB provides assistance in medium and high complexity in outpatient and hospital areas for transgender users, and in medical and surgical clinics for patients with metabolic and gastrointestinal diseases. The unit is located at Rua Cônego Jerônimo Pimentel, nº 543, in the Umarizal neighborhood, in Belém.
