Bill No. 457/2025, which designates August as the Month of Racial Literacy in the State of Pará, was proposed by the Attorney General's Office (PGE) with the aim of encouraging ongoing education to foster a critical culture regarding racial issues and combat structural racism. The bill has already been approved by Governor Helder Barbalho and is awaiting a vote in the State Legislative Assembly (Alepa).

The project was proposed by the PGE after the institution joined, in January of this year, the Interinstitutional Pact for Racial Equity, coordinated by the State Court of Accounts (TCE-PA) to promote actions that foster equity in Pará through collaboration among participating institutions. The TCE launched the initiative as part of its commitment to social responsibility and the promotion of human rights.

"From then on, we began to discuss, in the PGE Diversity Committee, the need to have a month dedicated to racial literacy, allowing people to reflect on what racial discrimination is, how it is rooted in the mental culture of the community, and thus begin to change this mindset," explained State Attorney Ibraim Rocha, a member of the PGE Diversity and Equity Committee, established in June of this year through an ordinance.

Awareness - According to the Bill, during the Month of Racial Literacy, integrated actions will be carried out in state public administration bodies and entities, aiming to develop critical awareness about racial issues; teach individuals to identify and name racism in its various forms; disseminate information about the role of race in society, social relations, and public policies; deconstruct stereotypes and prejudices regarding racism, value ethnic-racial diversity, and promote racial equity in state administration bodies and entities.

"In this way, we understand that it is necessary to learn the foundations that form this prejudice against black people as a way to combat racial discrimination in the State," concluded Attorney Ibraim Rocha.

Official Launch – Next Tuesday (26), the Attorney General's Office will hold, in a hybrid format, the Official Launch of the Month of Racial Literacy, during a meeting starting at 10 am at the institution's headquarters in Belém.

The event will feature the participation of authorities involved in the project, including all signatories of the Interinstitutional Pact for Racial Equity, as well as the general community. The program will be open to the public.
