During this week, the General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT), through its hospital pedagogy service, promoted a series of activities aimed at users and families in reference to National Children's Day, celebrated on August 24. The actions took place in the playroom of the unit and in the outpatient reception, bringing together hospitalized children and their companions in a moment of learning and valuing children's rights.

The program was divided into two moments. The first took place in the pediatric office reception, where children participated in painting activities, games, and playful dynamics. The second occurred in the playroom, where a discussion circle was held, gathering children and companions in an interaction space during the hospitalization period.

User Cleidiane Vieira, 38 years old, participated in the activity and commented on the experience. She is the mother of Ketellen Rihanna, 9 years old, who has been hospitalized for four days at HGT after an appendectomy, and highlighted what she learned during the educational action.

“I thought everything was very good. They addressed important points that reflect the reality we live with children. It was another learning experience for us to take better care of our children and always offer the best for them to grow well during childhood,” said Cleidiane Vieira, who lives in the rural area of the municipality of Acará.

Nursing and Pedagogy team created games to entertain children in treatment

In addition to recreational activities, the team raised awareness among families about the importance of childhood for human development. In the playroom, HGT pediatrician Dr. Bruno Fernandes participated along with nursing interns and HGT educator Elizabett Gomes.

“National Children's Day is an opportunity for us to reflect on children's rights and the responsibility of everyone. Our goal is to reinforce that childhood must be protected, valued, and respected in all dimensions of life,” stated the hospital unit's educator, Elizabett Gomes.

About the date - National Children's Day was established in Brazil in 1924, through Decree No. 4,867, and aims to draw attention to the need for public policies aimed at children. The date reinforces the country's commitment to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, approved by the UN in 1989, which establishes guarantees such as the right to life, health, education, family and community living, as well as protection against any form of neglect, discrimination, exploitation, or violence.

Playroom reinforces child care

HGT has a hospital pedagogy service that supports children during their hospitalization, developing educational and recreational activities. This year, more than 245 follow-ups have already been recorded. The work was expanded with the delivery, in June, of a new playroom, equipped with educational toys, books, and playful materials, offering more resources for the care of pediatric users.

“Initiatives like this are part of our commitment to provide comprehensive care to hospitalized children. We seek to integrate the educational dimension into the care practice, ensuring that the hospital is not just a treatment space, but also a place for development, learning, and welcome. Our goal is to provide adequate structure, pedagogical support, and moments of interaction that promote the well-being of users and reinforce awareness of children's rights,” stated Eduardo Pereira, executive director of HGT.

To conclude the action, the nursing interns, along with the preceptor, prepared painting activities and a puppet theater for the children. The story of The Three Little Pigs, with sticks and drawings of the characters, entertained the little ones and ensured moments of fun during the activity.
