General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT), in southeastern Pará, ensures psychological support for patients
The unit is a reference in the region for medical, surgical, and multiprofessional support

The General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT), in southeastern Pará, has established itself as one of the main references in public health in the region for medium complexity care. In addition to medical, surgical, and multiprofessional support, the unit also offers psychological follow-up, aimed at both patients and their companions.
In 2025 alone, the service has already ensured more than five thousand sessions, addressing the emotional demands that arise during hospitalization or in ongoing treatments.
The team consists of clinical psychologist Izabel Alves and psychologist Ícaro Tonin from the Hemodialysis Service. Together, the professionals conduct an average of 750 consultations per month. Between January and July 2025, 5,307 follow-ups have already been recorded, a number that reinforces the importance of psychology's role in the hospital routine.

Izabel Alves focuses her work in the different clinics of the hospital, with the highest demand in the medical clinic. This sector is characterized by long-term hospitalizations, which require regular psychological follow-up. The work aims to help patients cope with the time spent in the hospital, the distancing from their routine, and the uncertainties related to the treatment process.
According to the professional, the constant presence of psychology in the wards enhances health care within the hospital. "In the consultations, we seek to enable patients and families to feel supported in their daily difficulties, contributing to facing the recovery process in a more structured way. Psychological care offers this space for listening and strategies to cope with the hospitalization period in a more balanced manner," she emphasized.
Approval - User Clauzineide de Moraes, 57 years old, a resident of the municipality of Mojú and currently assisted by the Hemodialysis Center in Tailândia, reported her experience with the psychological follow-up offered by HGT. Before starting outpatient treatment, she was hospitalized at HGT, where she received psychological support during her hospitalization, which was later maintained in her current sessions.
“The support from the professionals is excellent. Since Izabel, when I was still hospitalized in the hospital, they have always been present, offering the best emotional support they could. As for Ícaro, I can't even find the words; he treats me very well and gives me a lot of strength. This follow-up is very rewarding and motivates me to continue the treatment. I am committed to the sessions and have not missed a single day,” reported the user.

At the Hemodialysis Center, patients require regular sessions, usually three times a week, in a continuous treatment context. In this setting, psychology acts in an integrated manner, considering that users need to cope with the routine of the procedure and the physical, psychological, and social impacts that dialysis treatment causes.
"The bond built with patients is one of the differentiators of our work, as the follow-up is long-lasting in the hemodialysis service. Qualified listening in the hemodialysis environment greatly contributes to treatment adherence, because understanding the anxieties and limitations experienced by patients is essential for planning interventions, seeking to alleviate the challenges arising from treatment, providing better quality of life," reported Ícaro Tonin.
Another relevant aspect is that psychological care is carried out in partnership with other teams in the hospital. Doctors, nurses, social workers, and other professionals share information and build care strategies. This integration favors the comprehensive follow-up of users, enhancing the effectiveness of treatment.
"Psychology plays a fundamental role in the hospital because it strengthens the way we care for patients. The work done in the clinics and in hemodialysis shows that investing in this follow-up makes a difference in the results. Our management seeks to ensure that this service is always available and integrated into the unit's routine," said HGT's assistant manager, Milton Peixoto.
The relevance of psychological assistance is further highlighted this Wednesday (27), the date on which Psychologist Day is celebrated. The date also draws attention to the importance of strengthening public policies for mental health care, expanding the population's access to psychological follow-up and ensuring adequate support for patients in different treatments.
