Regional Hospital of Santarém guides pregnant women on breastfeeding
The health unit is a reference in high-risk prenatal care for the entire population of Lower Amazon
The farmer Marta Soares da Silva, 43, is in her eighth pregnancy. She is a patient at the Dr. Waldemar Penna Regional Hospital of Lower Amazon (HRBA) in Santarém, and despite her accumulated experience, she appreciated receiving guidance on breastfeeding her new baby. "I found it very important. Even though I have breastfed seven babies, there were many things to clarify, and this lecture helped a lot. This type of program is very good for us," said the mother of Mavi, who is already in her seventh month of pregnancy.
She and other pregnant women who are monitored at the Regional Hospital of Santarém participated in a lecture at the unit's outpatient clinic on Tuesday (26). Taking advantage of the Golden August campaign, which encourages breastfeeding, the hospital professionals invited doula and perinatal educator Ana Eliza Ferreira to talk about breastfeeding techniques and also to answer future mothers' questions on the subject.

"Breastfeeding is one of the most important processes for humans, and it is essential for us to bring the truths, clarify myths that many of them hear, and that is why it was a special moment. No one is born knowing how to eat, and neither does the mother know how to breastfeed. It is also necessary to bring the techniques, such as how to properly latch the baby, identify possible problems in breastfeeding, and what to do in those cases. Our goal here was to help them breastfeed in the most comfortable way possible," emphasized the speaker.
Prenatal - The Lower Amazon Hospital is a reference in high-risk prenatal care and serves pregnant women from all over Lower Amazon with obstetric consultations, always on Mondays and Tuesdays. The HRBA provides support to women who have health conditions or risk factors that may lead to complications during pregnancy. Between January and August of this year, 393 consultations were conducted for these patients.

In addition to assistance, conducting health education actions is also part of the outpatient sector's schedule. The goal is to help with information and guidance so that they can have the best possible experience during pregnancy and later, in caring for their babies.
"We notice in prenatal consultations that they had many doubts, so we decided to take advantage of the Golden August campaign and invite a specialist on the subject so that pregnant women can learn to breastfeed with quality and without pain. It was a topic they needed to delve into a little more and clear up doubts," explained nurse Juliane Figueiredo.

"Our professionals are always attentive to our patients' questions. And, in addition to providing the best care, we are committed to delivering quality information to them, to help with their health and in each one's life. I am sure it was a fundamental moment for each mother who was present and will help a lot in caring for their children. We are very happy to be able to provide this clarification," concluded the unit's general director, Matheus Coutinho.
Service - Located in western Pará, the HRBA is a reference in medium and high complexity for a population of 1.4 million people in 29 municipalities of Lower Amazon and provides 100% referenced services, meeting the demand originating from the State Regulation Center. The unit belongs to the Government of Pará, being managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), and is located at Avenida Sérgio Henn, No. 1100, Diamantino neighborhood, in Santarém.
