The Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room (PSRM), in Belém, conducted its second organ donation for transplantation on Tuesday afternoon (2), this time for a pediatric patient. In recognition of the mother of the 12-year-old patient, who authorized the donation to benefit others even in a moment of pain, the unit's professionals gathered in the corridor leading to the Surgical Center.

As the donor was taken for the organ donation, the professionals sang a song emphasizing the importance of life. After this moment, in a symbolic gesture of respect and reverence, there was a minute of silence followed by a round of applause, in gratitude and welcome to the mother, who will help save other lives by authorizing the donation of her daughter's organs.

The organ donation for transplantation was the second conducted at PSRM

In the month of awareness about organ donation, September Green, the Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room, through the Intra-Hospital Commission of Organs and Tissues (CIHDOTT), reinforces the importance of this gesture, which can save many lives. In Brazil, donation only occurs with the family's authorization. The initiative of Viviane da Silva dos Santos, a resident of the municipality of São Caetano de Odivelas, in northeastern Pará, has restored hope for others who will now have the opportunity to continue living.

"The pain made me choose to donate my daughter's organs. I put myself in the place of another mother, of other family members, because I do not wish for them to suffer what I am suffering, with the pain of loss. What comforts me is knowing that my daughter is an angel who has departed, but with my authorization, she saved other lives, and she will also live on in each of those people," said Viviane Santos.

Awareness - One of the responsibilities of the Intra-Hospital Commission of Organs and Tissues is to encourage organ donation and raise awareness about the importance of authorizing organ donation for other patients, emphasizing that everything is done very safely. The diagnosis of brain death is made after evaluation by different medical teams, in a strict protocol to ensure safety for the families as well.

Anderson Silva, president of CIHDOTT, highlighted that "amid the pain of farewell, a family had a greater act of love: they said 'yes' to organ donation. This decision will transform the lives of other people and families who are waiting for a chance. It is an act of generosity that transcends loss and renews hope. Our special recognition to the CIHDOTT team, who were present with care, support, and respectful dialogue, showing that donating is an act of love that multiplies lives," emphasized the intensivist doctor.

The process that preceded the organ donation on Tuesday (2) was conducted internally by members of the Commission, which aims to organize routines and protocols that enable the process of organ and tissue donation for transplants. The activities related to the act of donation were coordinated by the team of the State Transplant Center (CET), linked to the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), responsible for organizing, coordinating, and regulating donation and transplant activities in the state public health network.

According to the general director of PSRM, Carlos Vinícius Ribeiro Quadros, "the first organ donation in a pediatric patient, in the first week of September, a month in which actions and initiatives regarding awareness about organ donation are reinforced with the health education campaign 'September Green', has great significance for the hospital, which is always working internally through CIHDOTT, alongside the families of patients, so that we can revive this patient in another who needs an organ and an opportunity to continue living, and that we can continue with our function of saving lives, both inside and outside our hospital."
