Abelardo Santos Hospital reaches nearly 700 thousand services in 2025
The volume of services provided to the population reaffirms the commitment of the Government of Pará to the quality of public health
The largest health unit of the Government of Pará, the Dr. Abelardo Santos Regional Hospital (HRAS), located in Icoaraci, a district of Belém, has already reached the mark of 695,507 health services performed in the first eight months of 2025. This impressive result reaffirms the importance of the unit, restructured by the government of Helder Barbalho, which has been consolidating itself in the network of free health assistance to the population of Pará since 2019.
The volume of services is led by the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support Service (SADT), with 579,031 exams performed, highlighting endoscopy, colonoscopy, arterial Doppler, and electromyography.

The Outpatient Sector, with 11 specialties, is the second most sought after, with 36,197 procedures and consultations in the areas of cardiology, endovascular neurology, and gynecology. Next are surgeries (8,321) and the Emergency Room with Adult, Pediatric, Obstetric, and Gynecological Urgency and Emergency (60,333 services), which operates 24 hours a day.
Indigenous health - The Abelardo Santos Hospital is also a pioneer in the Legal Amazon in the Incentive for Specialized Care for Indigenous Peoples (IAE-PI), an initiative of the Ministry of Health, maintaining comprehensive health care for more than 30 ethnic groups, including Tembé, Assurini, Amanayé, and Munduruku.
In light of the significant results, the general director of the unit, Ednise Amaral, emphasizes the commitment and engagement of the HRAS staff as a relevant factor in achieving this volume of services.
"I thank the dedication of the professionals who prioritize quality, safety, and humanization in the care of our patients who depend on the assistance of the Unified Health System. I extend my thanks to the support of the Government of Pará, through the State Department of Public Health, which contributes to the continuous improvement of the services offered to our users," emphasizes the manager.
The importance of HRAS in the state health network and the advances achieved in the first half of 2025 were also highlighted by the Secretary of State for Public Health, Ivete Vaz.
According to the head of Sespa, "the Abelardo Santos Regional Hospital is today one of the main references in public health in Pará. The numbers from the first half show the commitment of the State Government to accessible, resolutive, and humanized assistance. Almost 700 thousand services in six months reflect the efficiency of management, the dedication of the teams, and the care for the population, especially for the most vulnerable groups."

Humanized births - A reference in obstetrics, in the first seven months of 2025, the Hospital recorded 3,197 births, including 1,301 normal deliveries and 1,896 cesarean sections.
The multiprofessional team adopts humanized practices in non-pharmacological techniques. Integrative therapies contribute to a more welcoming environment for the arrival of the baby, providing benefits to both mother and child.
Among the women who received patient-centered care, Thalia dos Santos, 22 years old, highlights her positive experience at the unit.
"My first care was in the Obstetric Emergency. With agility, I was evaluated by the doctor, who soon requested an ultrasound. Then, I was admitted. In the pre-labor, I was in a lot of pain, but the team was great. I went through the humanization process. It was the most beautiful part of the birth, along with the birth of my daughter. This welcome is fundamental. An incredible experience! Promoting this amount of care for the population, especially for those who depend on SUS, is wonderful, and it reflects in our feelings when leaving here. I will recommend this Hospital to everyone I know," assures Thalia.

Quality – The Abelardo Santos Regional Hospital strengthens its goal of obtaining the "Baby-Friendly Hospital" seal, known by the acronym IHAC, which represents recognition for hospital units committed to quality care.
The hospital unit meets all the criteria for obtaining the seal. Federal Law No. 11,108, of April 7, 2005, mandates institutions within SUS to allow the presence, alongside the parturient, of a companion of the mother's free choice, especially encouraging the presence of the father during pre-labor, labor, and post-labor.

Structure - To meet the increasing demands, the unit maintains an infrastructure of 28 thousand square meters of built area, offering services in 11 specialties, including vascular, urology, thoracic, gynecological and pediatric surgeries, mastology, endoscopy, general and spine neurosurgery, general clinic, and obstetrics.
It has 360 beds, including Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for adults and children, with 24-hour service.
