The Sedap technician presents a form to the vendor to receive suggestions. More than 500 workers have already been heard.

The Department of Fairs and Markets (DFM) of the Secretary of Agricultural Development and Fisheries (Sedap) is conducting an evaluation survey with the workers of the largest market in Latin America, Ver-o-Peso, which is already 90% completed in its revitalization works.

In response to a request from the Ver-o-Peso Institute, the state secretary is monitoring, through surveys, the work of the vendors after the improvements were made. The institution also requests suggestions on what can be improved in the complex, including issues ranging from public access and work structure to public safety.

Among the improvements already provided by the City Hall of Belém are the 350 completely revitalized stalls, installed in the woodworking, fruits, vegetables, shrimp, and flour sectors. The transfer of equipment is part of the complete reconstruction of the Ver-o-Peso Complex, which is already over 90% completed, according to the City Hall of Belém.

The team from the Department of Fairs and Markets has already heard 550 workers from the largest market in Latin America to date. The goal, according to the director of Fairs and Markets at Sedap, Manoel Rendeiro, is to hear at least 1,150 vendors. The survey work will conclude next Wednesday (10). Workers located along the parking lot to the stalls where herbs are sold have already been heard.

“We are here responding to a request from the Ver-o-Peso Institute, which asked us to monitor the needs that workers face after the delivery of the stalls. We will extend this survey to those working in the fish and meat markets as well,” explained Rendeiro.

Vendor Carlos Silva was one of those heard by Sedap and praised the stall where he works. He also provided feedback on what could be improved.

After this stage, an invitation will be made to the state and city secretariats, according to the director's information, to hold a meeting aimed at verifying the needs raised, according to the areas pointed out by the vendors and working together on solutions.

“This evaluation survey is very important; it will show what we can do to improve Ver-o-Peso. We also have videos with testimonials from workers pointing out what has improved and what still needs adjustment; Ver-o-Peso is a complex of activities, and we have to resolve it according to the competencies of our secretariats,” he assessed.

Reference- With 44 years of experience working at the Ver-o-Peso market selling fruits and vegetables, Carlos Socorro Silva is one of the workers heard in the survey. He approved of the renovation carried out in the work space and liked the materials used in the stall. He also approved of the initiative to conduct a satisfaction survey after the delivery of improvements.

“It is important that we are heard, as is being done here. The maintenance is good, but there is a need to improve the drainage of water. That is a suggestion. However, regarding the stall, we are satisfied,” he assessed. He also suggested priorities such as security and parking for customers visiting the complex.

It is to hear suggestions and understand the needs that the Ver-o-Peso Institute requested Sedap to

The president of the Ver-o-Peso Institute, Mário Lima, says that the survey will also show how the vendor uses the space at Ver-o-Peso

conduct the satisfaction survey, according to the president of the entity, Mário Lima. He noted that the complex is in the final phase of construction and that it is necessary to intensify improvement actions that do not limit themselves to the physical structure.

“We need to see how the vendor will use this space; it is a way to organize the workplace. With this survey, we will know what the vendor thinks of Ver-o-Peso today and in the future so that we can improve, as we have very strong competition in Belém with the ‘half and half’ (wholesale markets). We must unite and change this management model. Here we have 5,000 workers. It is the largest generator of jobs and income in this city and contributes about 20% of Belém's economy.”
