Galileu Hospital invests in physiotherapy to develop movements in patients

State Government unit celebrates Physiotherapy Day with stories of overcoming

After two years facing the limitations caused by a motorcycle accident, the Pará native José Alves Siqueira returned to smile as he took firm steps inside the Galileu State Public Hospital (HPEG), in the Metropolitan Region of Belém.

“Before starting treatment, my goal was just to walk. Today I can walk without crutches, pedal on the cycle ergometer, and perform my daily activities. Returning to walk was the most significant moment of my recovery,” he shares emotionally.

José suffered a severe leg fracture after being hit by a landslide on a narrow road during a rainy day. Since then, physiotherapy has become an essential part of his life. “I feel welcomed by the Galileu team; they took care of me with love and patience. I will leave here 90% recovered and very grateful,” he states.

Stories like José's are repeated daily at the unit, a reference in orthopedic trauma for the Government of Pará. For physiotherapist Evandro César, who works daily at the hospital, physiotherapy is an indispensable step in treatment.

“At Galileu, we use Theraband elastic bands, cycle ergometers, mini jumps, ultrasound, TENS, outdoor gyms, as well as balance and mobility exercises. But the most important resource remains manual therapy, which allows for a humanized rehabilitation close to the patient,” he explains.

According to the professional, the benefits are evident: pain relief, muscle strengthening, increased range of motion, gait re-education, and more independence for daily activities. “The biggest challenge is to show the patient that they are capable. Many arrive afraid to move the fractured limb, but when they understand the process, the result is transformative,” he adds.

Satisfaction and overcoming

With each step taken by a patient in rehabilitation, the team celebrates together. “Working with people who arrive fragile and then return to walking, resume their routines, and embrace life again is immensely satisfying. It is the certainty of a job well done,” highlights Evandro.

The coordinator of the multidisciplinary team, Tyssia Costa, emphasizes that the investment in physiotherapy at Galileu is strategic: “Physiotherapy accelerates the return to activities, prevents complications such as atrophy and joint stiffness, and ensures greater safety in recovery. It is care that restores autonomy and quality of life.”

Lives

On this World Physiotherapy Day, Galileu Hospital, managed by the Amazon Social and Environmental Health Institute (ISSAA), reinforces its commitment to providing technology, structure, and support so that stories like José's continue to inspire.

“More than treating fractures, physiotherapy at Galileu helps patients find their strength, confidence, and hope. Each step gained is also a symbol of the dedication of the entire team,” summarizes Evandro.

For the executive director of the unit, Cledes Silva, World Physiotherapy Day is an opportunity to recognize the value of this care within the patients' journey.

“At Galileu Hospital, we understand that physiotherapy is not just a complement to orthopedic treatment, but a fundamental link to restore autonomy, quality of life, and hope to people who come to us fragile. Each step taken by our patients is the result of the dedication of a committed team that combines technical knowledge, modern resources, and, above all, human support,” concludes the manager.
