Sespa reinforces the importance of the network of services spread out to care for mental health
In addition to the municipal services, there are six Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPSs) under state management, five of which are located in Belém
In the month that celebrates care for mental health, Yellow September, the State Health Department (Sespa), through the State Coordination of Mental Health, reminds us that today, unlike in the past - when the care model was primarily hospital-centric - there is a diverse network of community-based, territorial, and decentralized services throughout the State, where suicide prevention, for example, is included in all actions.
In this way, a person experiencing mental suffering can go directly to both the Basic Health Units and the 87 Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPSs) located throughout the State, where the first step is welcoming. The main mental health services are provided in these Centers, where the user receives care close to family with assistance.
However, if in crisis, the person can be assisted by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu 192), the Emergency Care Unit (UPA 24h), or taken to a psychiatric emergency service, such as the Gaspar Vianna Clinical Hospital in Belém.
It is also possible to seek support through conversations with volunteers from the Life Valuation Center (CVV), in partnership with the SUS, by calling 188. Through this communication channel, citizens receive support in times of crisis and help for suicide prevention.
For the director of Integral Health Care Policies at Sespa, Ana Paula Reis, Yellow September is an opportunity for a preventive, caring, and attentive approach, in order to identify situations where there is imminent risk and guide how to seek help to prevent suicide. "The importance of listening and understanding by the mental health professional is emphasized, avoiding any form of judgment and thus providing help to prevent extreme situations," she explains.
