As part of the "Operation Protector of Borders and Boundaries", the team from the Integrated River Base "Candiru", located in Óbidos, in the Lower Amazon, arrested a man on Wednesday morning (10) who was being investigated for sexual assault of a vulnerable person. The incident occurred during a trip on a vessel bound for Alenquer.

The arrest in flagrant was made by a team from the River Group (GFlu), in a joint action with military police units. The teams received a phone tip-off about an individual committing the crime of sexual assault against a child inside a vessel during a trip between the cities of Manaus and Parintins, both in the State of Amazonas.

The 63-year-old man, originally from Urucará (AM), was located inside the vessel where the situation occurred. He was forwarded to the Civil Police team for the necessary legal procedures.

According to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado, the arrest demonstrates the seriousness with which the State confronts and combats the practice of sexual crimes.

“This action demonstrates the crucial importance of the River Base in combating crimes of this nature, ensuring the protection of vulnerable victims and reinforcing the commitment to public safety in our region. The presence and effective action of the River Base 'Candiru' are essential to curb and repress crimes like this, ensuring a safer environment for all citizens,” he said.
