The Secretary of Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) participated in the 26th Meeting of River Basin Committees (ENCOB), held last week in the State of Espírito Santo. Semas stood out at the event with the presentation of the article "The importance of integration between the managing agency and the River Basin Committee in the Amazon: The case of the River Marapanim Basin Committee in the State of Pará," which narrates the actions of Semas and reaffirms the institutional commitment to participatory and decentralized management.

"The event was a space for dialogue, where successful cases in water management were presented. Semas shared successful experiences through the presentation of the article from the River Marapanim Basin Committee, which has the function of exercising governance with the participation of the population, discussing the use and preservation of water resources," explains Luciene Chaves, director of Water Resources Management at Semas.

The River Marapanim Basin Committee (CBHRM) is a consultative and deliberative body aimed at promoting decentralized management of the basin's water resources, encompassing 12 municipalities in Pará and involving the participation of civil society, public authorities, and water users.

"During the event, we also provided technical support for the construction of a second article, created and led by the members of the Committee, titled: "Social mobilization in the municipalities of the CBH Rio Marapanim: Perspectives and challenges," the text highlights the Committee's leadership in local articulation and the strategic role of mobilization as a tool for water governance," emphasizes Luciene Chaves.

Semas works to strengthen water management in the Amazon through the Directorate of Planning and Water Resources Management (Direh), which implements the State Water Resources Policy, coordinating actions aimed at regulating various uses of water, ensuring appropriate quality standards for the maintenance of life.

Hydrometeorological Monitoring - Semas, through Direh, also conducted a Training Course in Hydrometeorological Monitoring at the beginning of August, aimed at improving the technical qualification of the staff, strengthening the management and monitoring of water resources in the State.

The environmental analyst at Semas, João Pedro Valente, highlighted the importance of the course for the technical improvement of monitoring and water management activities. "This technical knowledge broadened my perspective on how to enhance analysis in the granting processes; in general, I consider the course to be very important, as it combined theory and practice in a way that applied to our work reality, adding significantly to our daily activities," concluded the analyst.
