The 19th Spring of Museums, promoted by the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram), will be held in Pará through the State Secretariat of Culture (Secult). The activities will begin next Tuesday (23), with the theme "Museums and Climate Change". The theme invites reflection on how museum institutions can contribute to mitigating environmental impacts. The program is free, with visitation from 9 am to 5 pm.

Photography exhibition

The Integrated System of Museums and Memorials (SIMM), from Secult, has prepared a series of activities that will take place until September 28 (Sunday).

The Marajó Museum, in the municipality of Cachoeira do Arari, in partnership with the Resilient Marajó Project, an initiative dedicated to strengthening climate resilience in the Marajó Archipelago, promotes actions for all ages.

The first activity, on Tuesday (23), consists of a workshop on "Climate Change and Diversified Agroforestry Systems," aimed at public school students, from 9 am to 12 pm. The next day (24), a film showcase will be presented with "Rain Lands," materials from Amazônia Vox, and videos from PMR. There will also be a debate on agroforestry systems and climate change, from 9 am to 12 pm.

On Thursday (25), the program will run from 9 am to 12 pm, with a discussion circle on "Climate Adaptation, Gender, and Quilombola Communities." On Friday (26), there will be a roundtable discussion with members of local and institutional entities to build proposals aimed at formulating a climate adaptation agenda for Marajó.

PROGRAM

Fort of Presépio Museum – From September 23 to 28, the book "Burning Pages: The Fires in the Amazon" will be on display in physical form. The material includes a QR Code for access to the digital version. The physical book will be at the entrance of the space, mediated by Sant-Clair G. Dias.

House of Eleven Windows – Guided visits will be held for the exhibition "Soils: Interpenetrable Territories," featuring pieces of different languages, from photographs to rock samples. The guided visits will take place from September 23 to 28.

The House of Eleven Windows will also facilitate the launch of the virtual catalog for this exhibition on Saturday (27), when there will be a chat with artists Camila Fialho, José Viana, and Lise Lobato, from 9 am to 12 pm.

'Belém Rediscovered' is part of the program at the Soledade Cemetery Park

Soledade Cemetery Park - Starting at 10 am on the 25th, there will be a visit "Belém Rediscovered: The City from the Archaeological Finds of the Soledade Cemetery." The mediation will be by historian and doctor in Archaeology Paulo do Canto.

Círio Museum – On Friday (26), the Círio Museum will hold a roundtable with master in Geography and Tourism Jorge Alex Souza and Rita Denize de Oliveira, mediated by Márcio Figueiredo, director of the Museum. The debate will be from 9 am to 12 pm, discussing climate change and its consequences on the Círio de Nazaré.

On Sunday (28), the Museum will hold a workshop on making capes, using recyclable materials. The activity will be from 9 am to 12 pm, aimed at children aged 5 to 12 years.

Critical thinking - Regarding the event's theme, the director of the Integrated System of Museums and Memorials (SIMM), Armando Sobral, said that "the 19th Spring of Museums brings a very important question for us to think about museums in the Amazon. How can these institutions promote actions towards awareness, towards a more critical thinking about the transformations that the Amazon territory has been undergoing over the years? Looking to the past, thinking about our traditional cultures, strengthening ourselves with our identities, mobilizing society so that we can find viable alternatives. Bringing this debate into society is one of the roles of the Museum."

"It is important that we make a historical recap. The first knowledge-producing institutions in Brazil were museums, before universities. In Belém, for example, before any higher education course on Science, we had the Emílio Goeldi Museum. As an institution that promotes history, memory, culture, diversity, and knowledge, museums are great allies in building a critical consciousness about our time," added Armando Sobral.

Secult will also launch, on the 26th, another episode of the series Commented Work, with researcher and curator John Fletcher, who will analyze photographs by Miguel Chikaoka. The content will be accessible on the museums' website.
