Uepa and Sespa participate in the I Seminar of Pará SUS Digital, in the "Now There Are Specialists Program"
Uepa is already providing specialized care in an online digital system

On this Wednesday (24), the State University of Pará (Uepa) hosts the I Seminar of Pará SUS Digital in the Now There Are Specialists Program, organized by the Department of Information and Digital Health of the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the State Health Department of Pará (Sespa), starting at 8:30 AM, in the auditorium of the Center for Biological and Health Sciences (CCBS), with the participation of the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha. The event discusses how online digital technological innovations can assist in the services of the Unified Health System (SUS), including within the newly created "Now There Are Specialists", combining two fundamental characteristics: agility and quality.
According to the Ministry of Health, the "Now There Are Specialists Program" enables a "faster service for patients who need consultations, exams, surgeries, oncological treatments, and other specialized services from the public network." It is a merger of the National Queue Reduction Program (PNRF), created in 2023, and the More Access to Specialists Program (PMAE), from 2024.
The State of Pará was chosen to host the I Seminar due to its geographical diversity and representation of the 13 Regional Health Departments, establishing itself as a strategic scenario, as it already has a variety of Digital Health services in over 100 municipalities.
The meeting aims to present the SUS Digital Program and its integration into the "Now There Are Specialists Program", with an emphasis on the State of Pará. The agreement of commitments between federal, state, municipal governments, and institutional partners, ensuring engagement and shared responsibility, as well as the necessary strategic alignment and institutional agreements for the start of the Integrated SUS Digital Clinic project, are also objectives of the Seminar.
Digital health at Uepa
Uepa is one of the institutions already working on the front lines, connecting technology and assistance. "Our project integrates multiple telehealth offerings into a unified access flow, ensuring that the patient is attended to in a timely manner by a qualified specialist," explains the coordinator of Medical and Nursing Assistance, Caroline Oliveira Barcelos.
Care is provided by specialist doctors in cardiology, neurology, urology, rheumatology, dermatology, and orthopedics, and also involves scholarship students from nursing and medicine courses, who accompany each consultation. For the students, it is a unique opportunity to experience integrated care and learn from professionals who are in the daily assistance, reports a medical scholarship student.
Currently, 27 municipalities are part of Uepa's work plan: Altamira, Ananindeua, Belém, Benevides, Bom Jesus do Tocantins, Brejo Grande do Araguaia, Canãa dos Carajás, Boa Vista Community/Quilombo-Oriximiná, Curionópolis, DSEI /CASAI - Altamira, Eldorado dos Carajás, Itaituba, Jacareacanga, Marabá, Marituba, Novo Progresso, Oriximiná, Palestina do Pará, Parauapebas, Piçarra, Santa Bárbara do Pará, Santarém, São Domingos do Araguaia, São Félix do Xingu, São Geraldo do Araguaia, São João do Araguaia, São Miguel do Guamá, Tucumã, and Tucuruí.
"We have partners in locations such as Altamira, Marabá, Santarém, Tucuruí, among others. This allows us to bring specialized care to populations that often would have to travel long distances to access this type of service," reinforces Barcelos.
The care flow has also been designed to be simple and agile. The patient seeks the Basic Health Unit (UBS) in their municipality, undergoes evaluation with the general practitioner, and when necessary, a referral is made to the specialist. "If the municipality is part of our network, the local team schedules the teleconsultation with us. This shortens the waiting time and improves resolution," adds the coordinator.
