HRPA consolidates Redenção as a reference in nephrology in southern Pará
The Regional Public Hospital of Araguaia offers kidney transplants and more than 2,500 monthly dialysis sessions, strengthening public health in the region
The Government of Pará, through the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), has been consolidating the Regional Public Hospital of Araguaia (HRPA) in Redenção as a reference in nephrology in the southern part of the state. Since 2007, the unit has guaranteed high-complexity care for kidney diseases through the Unified Health System (SUS), benefiting residents of 17 municipalities in the region.
Excellence structure
With 118 inpatient beds, 29 of them in intensive care units (adult, pediatric, and neonatal), HRPA performs everything from outpatient consultations to kidney transplants, including intensive treatments and post-transplant follow-up. The hospital also offers 37 hemodialysis points, enabling around 2,500 monthly sessions, serving approximately 200 patients.
Special attention to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) accounts for 40% of the services, with rigorous monitoring of the most severe cases. The multidisciplinary team also performs kidney biopsies, essential for the early diagnosis of glomerulopathies and other rare diseases.
Kidney transplant in the interior
HRPA was the first hospital in the interior of Pará to perform kidney transplants, an important milestone in the decentralization of high-complexity medicine. The transplant program, consolidated in partnership with the Central Notification, Capture, and Donation of Organs (CET-PA) and the National Transplant System, follows patients from pre-operative studies to post-transplant, ensuring quality and safety at all stages.
Since July 2025, the unit has also started offering the Outpatient Clinic for Bone Mineral Disease of Chronic Kidney Disease (BMD-CKD), an unprecedented service in the interior of the state, representing a significant advance for the health and quality of life of the region's population.
Comprehensive care
The hospital operates in clinical, surgical, and emergency/urgent care, in addition to maintaining an average of 110 monthly hemodialysis sessions in ICUs. Telemedicine tools expand the reach of specialized care, reinforcing the commitment to bringing quality health to the interior.
Management and recognition
Managed by the Association of Sports Leisure and Culture (Aselc), a social organization specialized in hospital management, HRPA combines advanced technology with humanized care.
“The high technological standard of HRPA in service of health is one of the highlights of our hospital, which is perfectly complemented by the exemplary dedication and high professional level of our team,” highlighted the hospital director, Ricardo Arruda.
The State Secretary of Public Health, Ivete Gadelha Vaz, reinforced the strategic importance of the unit.
“The hospital guarantees access to quality medical care, especially for patients with kidney problems. It is an excellent service that the Government provides to the population, both in health and social areas. This is work that decisively contributes to the quality of life of the population in the southern region of our state,” she stated.
