Alongside Mayor Igor Normando, the Deputy Governor and the Minister of the Civil House presented a balance of sanitation, mobility, and infrastructure works in the final stretch of preparations for COP30

With 47 days to go until the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), the Deputy Governor of Pará, Hana Ghassan, the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, and the Mayor of Belém, Igor Normando, presented, this Wednesday (24), the balance of countries already confirmed by the UN and detailed the works and investments that are transforming the capital of Pará to host the world's largest climate event. The press conference was held at the Creative Economy Center of Parque da Cidade.
Hana Ghassan highlighted the investment of over R$ 1 billion in macro-drainage and sanitation, with the revitalization of 13 channels in the capital, 11 of which are located in peripheral areas, benefiting more than 500,000 residents. Hana also emphasized the completion of the largest Sewage Treatment Plant in the State, ETE Una, which will serve ten neighborhoods that previously had no access to treatment, marking a milestone for public health and quality of life in Belém.
“This is the legacy we have long awaited. Delivering works that change realities, such as the largest sewage treatment plant in the State, demonstrates the magnitude of the investments being made in Belém and Pará,” she stated.

The Deputy Governor also shared the latest numbers for COP30 in Belém. According to the UN, 180 nationalities have already registered and 49,000 accreditation requests have been made. Following this, Hana Ghassan presented the schedule for the delivery of structural works, which will begin next week.
“We will start an extensive calendar of inaugurations, such as ETE Una, a highly anticipated milestone, and the Mercedários Complex, in partnership with the Federal Government, located in front of the Estação das Docas, enhancing areas of the city's historic center,” she said. “The Museum of the Amazons, the new gastronomy building, and the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park will also be inaugurated, along with the Caixa Cultural, the Linear Park of Doca, the Linear Park of Tamandaré, the Outeiro Bridge, and the new Rua da Marinha,” she affirmed.

Earlier in the morning, Rui Costa inspected the works at the Outeiro Port, which will host the cruises contracted by the Federal Government to accommodate delegations, and the Outeiro Bridge, which will reduce travel time to Parque da Cidade by up to 20 minutes. The minister highlighted that the Federal Government has already allocated R$ 6 billion for Belém in infrastructure and sanitation investments, which have generated more than five thousand direct and indirect jobs. According to Rui Costa, these workers make the entire structure of the event possible and contribute to improving the quality of life for the population.
“We have undertaken a true engineering challenge, a planning challenge, and a challenge of effort. I want to recognize and congratulate the thousands of workers who will be anonymous during the COP period. The COP would not be possible if these workers had not worked often from Sunday to Sunday,” he emphasized.

Mayor Igor Normando presented the urban mobility plan for the COP30 period, which includes school recess, reduced operation of non-essential agencies, dedicated bus lines, and special routes to ensure traffic flow. “We are working with the State Government on a major route planning, preparing the city to welcome visitors while maintaining the routine of residents with tranquility,” he stated.
