Students from the Civil Engineering course at the Federal University of Western Pará (Ufopa), in Santarém, participated on Tuesday (30) in a lecture on Safety and Occupational Medicine, promoted by the Regional Hospital of Tapajós (HRT), in Itaituba, southwest of the State.

The initiative took place in partnership with the university and involved the participation of strategic sectors of the hospital unit. The lecture was conducted by collaborators Tatiane Amorim and Raikelly Miranda, from the Specialized Service in Safety and Occupational Medicine (SESMT) of the hospital, who highlighted the importance of accident prevention and occupational health.

Student Lucas Silva, 19, noted the relevance of the learning experience.
“Before, I looked at the hospital as if it only had health professionals, but today I understood that there are several sectors that make the unit function. In addition, I learned exactly how to prevent workplace accidents,” said the student.

Integration with the academic community

The action was coordinated by the Humanization sector of the hospital, with analyst Maria de Lourdes, and by the Human Resources sector, represented by Daiane Nogueira, along with the participation of nurse Lara Suzan, coordinator of the Permanent Education Center (NEP).

For Professor Mateus Viana, responsible for coordinating the hospital's presence at the university, the experience provided a moment of integration. “It is very important for students to have contact with other institutions to broaden their knowledge. Even being from engineering, they need to experience new realities and reflect on the impact of the hospital's work on the region,” he explained.

Importance of the educational action - The Human Resources coordinator of HRT, Daiane Nogueira, emphasized that the activity brings the population closer to the profile of the unit. “Bringing actions like this to the academic community is a way to show the importance of the hospital's work. More than health assistance, the Regional Hospital of Tapajós also has an educational commitment, helping to form citizens aware of workplace safety,” she added.

Reference in southwest Pará - The Regional Hospital of Tapajós is a reference in traumatology and high-risk obstetrics. The unit is managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), integrating the hospital network of the Government of Pará.

With 153 beds, including Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (ICUs), the hospital plays a fundamental role in decentralizing and expanding access to specialized health in strategic regions of the State, contributing to reducing inequalities and providing quality care closer to the population.
