The Civil Police of Pará, through the Directorate of Assistance to Vulnerable Groups (DAV), integrates the operation "Virtue 2025". The objective is the prevention and repression of crimes against elderly people, ensuring comprehensive protection to contribute to dignified aging for the population of Pará. Teams from the Interior Police Directorate (DPI) will also act to ensure actions in the interior.

Coordinated at the state level by the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), the actions of PCPA within the scope of Operation Virtue 2025 begin this Thursday (2) until the end of this month.

“Violence against elderly people constitutes one of the most serious forms of human rights violations. The most recurring forms of crimes against the elderly, according to the National Human Rights Ombudsman, are negligence, mistreatment, psychological, patrimonial, and physical violence. To combat these practices, the entire DAV staff will work by conducting lectures, educational prevention and awareness actions, both about the crimes and about the ways to report, in several cities in the interior of the state,” highlighted Delegate Emanuela Amorim, head of DAV.

Operation Virtue 2025 occurs in commemoration of the anniversary month of the Elderly Person Statute (Law No. 10,741/2003) and arises as an integrated action of national scope, coordinated by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), through the National Secretariat of Public Security (SENASP), in partnership with the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDH) and state public security agencies.

“Educational, preventive, ostensive, and repressive actions aimed at combating violence against elderly people will also be developed. In addition to stimulating the articulation of the protection network, strengthening the visibility of public assistance policies aimed at elderly people,” added Delegate Emanuela Amorim.

“During October, the municipalities of Santarém, Salinópolis, Capanema, and Castanhal will receive reinforcement from DAV teams that operate in the Metropolitan Region of Belém and carry out specialized work in combating violence against elderly people. The police in these municipalities will receive guidance to improve the efficiency of their actions and reinforce specialized assistance in the local police stations and precincts of each city,” emphasized Delegate Hennison Jacob, head of DPI.
