The Government of Pará is holding, this Thursday and Friday, October 2 and 3, through the Secretary of Racial Equality and Human Rights (Seirdh), in partnership with the State Council of Human Rights (CEDH), the 3rd State Conference on Human Rights, at ICJ (Institute of Legal Sciences) and ICSA (Institute of Applied Social Sciences), of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), in Belém.

The opening of the conference took place on the morning of this Thursday, at the Institute of Legal Sciences (ICJ), of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), in Belém. The ceremony was attended by representatives of civil society, social movements, and public authorities, as well as delegates who will participate in the construction of public policies.

Élida Lauris, National Secretary for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights

The keynote address was given by Élida Lauris, National Secretary for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights. She emphasized the strength of the State of Pará in terms of activism and popular organization. “It is a leading state in the discussion and agendas of human rights, at the forefront of the major issues that concern us in terms of human rights, such as the climate crisis, forms of survival based on an idea of ways of life that respect nature, as opposed to predatory methods that harm. The conference gives us a chance to dialogue with what is most solid in terms of production and most innovative in terms of discussions on human rights,” she highlighted.

Edilza Fontes, head of Seirdh

The head of Seirdh, Edilza Fontes, spoke about the holding of the state conference. “It is with great honor that we begin the 3rd State Conference on Human Rights. This is a fundamental space for listening, dialogue, and collective construction, in which we reaffirm the commitment of the State Government to the promotion and defense of human rights in their entirety. We live in times when it is necessary to resist setbacks and strengthen democracy. Therefore, the conference has a strategic role: to bring together civil society, social movements, academia, and public authorities to think together about solutions that ensure dignity, equality, and respect for all people,” she emphasized.

Program - The program continues in the afternoon of this Thursday. Discussions will be held in six thematic axes for the elaboration of proposals for voting. The delegates will divide to work together.

On this Friday (3), there will be a vote on the proposals developed in the thematic axes and the election of delegates for the national stage scheduled to take place between December 10 and 12, in Brasília (DF).

State Conference - The state conference is one of the preparatory stages for the 13th National Conference on Human Rights, scheduled to take place in December, in Brasília (DF). During the two days of programming, based on the theme “For a National System of Human Rights: consolidating democracy, resisting setbacks, and advancing the guarantee of rights for all people,” proposals will be discussed that should support public policies in Pará and integrate the national deliberation notebook, in addition to the election of 36 delegates who will represent the state at the national stage.
