Governor Helder and President Lula ensure solid advances in education in Marajó
The delivery of a daycare benefits more than 100 children in Breves and reinforces partnerships between federal, state, and municipal governments

The advancement in public education policies becomes evident with the inauguration of a daycare that will serve 128 children. The project, a result of collaboration between the Federal Government and the local city hall, represents an important step in improving access to education in the region. The inauguration, held today (02), also marked commitments from the state administration for new deliveries and educational investments in the region.
Attending the event were President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, the Vice Governor Hana Ghassan, as well as the Ministers of Education, Camilo Santana, of Cities, Jader Filho, and of Tourism, Celso Sabino, and other authorities.
Governor Helder Barbalho highlighted the importance of the new daycare delivery. “It is a significant achievement that resumes the works initiated with the support of the Federal Government and the City Hall of Breves. We are taking care of our children and ensuring they have access to quality education from an early age,” he stated during the ceremony. For the governor, this partnership is essential to face the historical challenges faced by education in Marajó.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also participated in the inauguration and expressed his indignation at the delay in the works. “Works started in 2014, in 2012. These are works that the Ministry of Education had allocated resources for, but they are being inaugurated 15 years later. I honestly think that many public agents should be arrested for irresponsibility. Because when you leave a work paralyzed because it was your opponent who started it, you have no respect for the people. The work is for the people,” Lula emphasized.

Changes in education in Breves are visible, not only in the new constructions but also in the perspective of the residents. Evane Mendes Almeida, a housewife and mother of three-year-old Pietro, expressed her satisfaction with the inauguration of the daycare. “I am very grateful because before the daycares were far away and it was difficult to take my son. Now, having a daycare close to home makes life much easier for mothers here in the neighborhood,” she said, visibly emotional. For Evane, the creation of full-time educational units is a real necessity, as many mothers need to work and have no one to leave their children with.

Flarigiane do Socorro dos Santos Paiva, a teacher in Breves, also commented on the importance of the new inaugurations. She recalled how the educational reality in the region was 25 years ago when access to education was limited. “Today, as we see a daycare being delivered, we can affirm that the situation is changing. The presence of the federal and state governments shows that there is a commitment to the development of education in Marajó,” said Flarigiane.
President Lula also announced the inauguration of two elementary school units: the São Sebastião Rio Limão do Japichaua school, in the rural area of Breves, and the Francisco Chagas da Costa school, in Melgaço.

During the event, service orders were signed for the resumption of seven educational works in Melgaço. An investment of R$ 3 million for the construction of two two-classroom schools, three six-classroom schools, one type C preschool daycare, and one covered school gym with locker rooms.
