Shredder Accelerates Glass Shipment for Reverse Logistics and Benefits Cooperatives
Equipment delivered by Semas ensured a leap in quality for recycling and the circular economy of cooperatives in Igarapé-Açu

The policy to strengthen the circular economy implemented by the State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) is already showing concrete results in municipalities across the State. The shredder recently delivered to the ReciclAssu Cooperative in Igarapé-Açu transformed the routine of the cooperatives and increased the efficiency in sending glass loads for reverse logistics.
Previously, assembling a load of 30 tons of glass took up to two days of work. With the new equipment, a load recently sent by ReciclAssu, weighing over 53 tons, was assembled in just 1 hour and 30 minutes. So far, more than 115 tons have been correctly allocated for reverse logistics of glass through ReciclAssu, the Concaves recycling cooperative, and neighboring municipalities, in partnership with the Glass is Good Program of the Brazilian Beverage Association.
In addition to the shredder, ReciclAssu received other equipment that established Igarapé-Açu as a regional reference for environmentally appropriate waste disposal, providing support to municipalities such as Maracanã, Magalhães Barata, Terra Alta, and São Francisco do Pará.
The Secretary of Environmental Management and Regularity of Semas, Rodolpho Zahluth Bastos, emphasized that the delivered equipment directly strengthens local recycling chains.
“This result shows that investment in equipment is crucial to strengthen the circular economy in Pará. In Igarapé-Açu, we saw how the shredder drastically reduced the loading time of glass, making the work more dignified for the collectors and more efficient for the cooperatives. This is the path we want to expand: to ensure structure, generate income, and ensure that waste has environmentally correct disposal, within a network that integrates municipalities and strengthens reverse logistics throughout the state,” he stated.

Efficiency - Carol Magalhães, president of the Amazon Sustainable Development Institute (Ideassu), a partner in the initiative, reinforces the impact of the action. “The glass shredder received by ReciclAssu, through Semas in May of this year, greatly optimized the work of the cooperatives. This efficiency shows how the equipment has changed the reality of the cooperatives and strengthened the sustainable management of waste in the territory,” she highlighted.
This week, ReciclAssu temporarily lent the shredder to support the Castanhal Collectors Cooperative (Coopenorte), which is in the preparation phase to receive its own equipment, also through Semas. The cooperatives of Coopenorte have already started shredding about 30 tons that were stored in the warehouse, with an estimated shipment of approximately 40 tons of glass to the glass industry, ensuring that the packaging returns to the productive cycle.
