The actions developed by the Integrated Floating Base of Antônio Lemos resulted in the seizure of 4 tons of pirarucu (scientifically Arapaima gigas) on the afternoon of last Sunday (5). The fish was found without the required tax documentation on a vessel that left Manaus (AM) heading to Belém.

The actions coordinated by the Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense, through the River Security Group (Gflu), monitored and inspected vessels crossing the river network of the Marajó archipelago to ensure the safety of the riverside population.

“In yet another integrated action by our security agents, we managed to identify this cargo that was being transported illegally, without legal proof of the fish. Once again, in an assertive action, we managed to intercept and seize 4 tons of fish. This proves, more and more each day, that the operation of the river bases is of extreme importance for the maintenance of inspection and monitoring of the rivers in the state,” said the Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense, Ualame Machado.

Occurrence

The joint action between the agents of the River Public Security Group (Gflu), along with a team from the Military Police, conducted an approach on a barge in the Breves river network, named “Geovana”, originating from the city of Manaus, heading to Belém. The agents identified, among the loads of a trailer, with the help of the sniffer dog “Black”, a large quantity of dried pirarucu, which weighed a total of 4 tons, transported illegally, without the presentation of legal documentation. The owner of the trailer was taken to the Civil Police unit of the Base for the necessary procedures. The fish was taken to the municipal health surveillance and will later be donated to a community.
