Emater assists settlers of Limoeiro do Ajuru in accessing rural credit from Pronaf
Technical Assistance Company (Emater) prepared the individual contracts of family farmers for the sustainable management of açaí groves
By December, 100 settlers from the agrarian reform in Limoeiro do Ajuru, in northeastern Pará, are expected to receive a total of R$ 5 million and 200 thousand in rural credit, based on projects developed by the local office of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Pará (Emater).
The individual contracts of line A of the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf) with the Bank of the Amazon (Basa), worth R$ 52 thousand, were signed on the 7th of this month, at the headquarters of Emater, in the Centro neighborhood.
The goal is to sponsor sustainable management strategies for native açaí groves in the floodplain of the Tocantins River and its tributaries, in lots averaging five hectares. With the intervention guided by Emater specialists, aimed at cleaning and maintaining ecosystemic species such as andiroba and miriti, the productivity of the areas can triple within two years.
“Pronaf had been inactive for over 11 years in the municipality, so we are leading a revival, which is very emblematic, especially with COP-30 [30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change] taking place in Belém in November. We reinforce the understanding that investing in the Amazon is to offer opportunities and activities for the populations,” states the head of the local Emater office in Limoeiro do Ajuru, agricultural technician and agronomist Edir Antônio Queiroz.
The current volume solidifies a total of R$ 15 million in rural credit, released in the municipality throughout 2025. The projects are partnered with the Association of Fishermen and Farmers of Limoeiro do Ajuru (Aspala), benefiting 302 families engaged in extractivism in federal settlements.
