One of the most beautiful and traditional pilgrimages of the Nazaré Festival, the Fluvial Círio, this year will have a new departure location: the Icoaraci Tourist Hydroviary Terminal (district of Belém). The change was confirmed after a technical evaluation conducted by the Brazilian Navy on the morning of this Thursday (9), and by the Nazaré Festival Board.

During the inspection, Navy teams simulated the docking of the Hydroceanographic Ship (NHo) Garnier Sampaio, which traditionally transports the Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Nazaré during the pilgrimage through the Guajará Bay. The naval structure of the terminal was also inspected and approved.

The new departure location of the Fluvial Círio was approved by the Brazilian Navy and the Nazaré Festival Board

"It is a satisfaction to see the new Icoaraci Tourist Hydroviary Terminal being the starting point of the Fluvial Círio. This work was designed to ensure more safety, comfort, and accessibility for those who live in and visit the district. Seeing this space welcoming the devotees of Our Lady shows that the investment was successful, and that this work will serve the faith and the people of Pará,” highlighted the president of the Pará Ports and Waterways Company (CPH), Hilton Aguiar.

Devotion on the waters - The Fluvial Círio is the fourth pilgrimage of the Nazaré Festival. It is held always on the second Saturday of October, the eve of the Círio. The procession covers about 18 kilometers through the Guajará Bay, starting in Icoaraci and ending at the steps of Praça Pedro Teixeira, next to the Estação das Docas. The expected arrival time is 11 a.m.

The new terminal was delivered by the state government, through the CPH, on Wednesday (8), the date on which the Icoaraci District celebrated 156 years. With 1,000 square meters (m²) of built area and modern architecture, the space offers more safety and comfort to the devotees who will accompany the beginning of the fluvial procession.
