The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Social Assistance, Labor, Employment and Income (Seaster) and the State Secretariat for Economic Development, Mining and Energy (Sedeme), promotes from November 11 to 21 the Paraense Handicraft Museum (MAP), in an unprecedented way, at the São José Liberto Space, located in the Jurunas neighborhood of Belém. The MAP will be an opportunity to show visitors the creative richness produced by artisans, who express through art the strength of Amazonian ancestry.

São José Liberto Space: history, creativity, and creative potential in one place

The environment chosen especially for the event, the São José Liberto Space, maintained by the Government of Pará through Sedeme, is aimed at the collaborative commercialization of Pará handicrafts, with an exhibition of pieces featuring traits from the Marajoara and Tapajônica cultures, worked in a peculiar way. These are iconic pieces from various regions of the State, which allows for the generation of employment and income for artisans.

Diversity for the world - The MAP was designed to act as a showcase of Amazonian culture, valuing forms of expression that will reach the world during COP30 (world conference on climate change).

Pará is one of the states with recognized cultural and gastronomic diversity, which includes the cultural potential of indigenous peoples, quilombolas, and riverside communities. Regions such as the Marajó Archipelago will be featured in the space, showcasing the beauty of the graphics perpetuated in ceramic pieces inspired by ancestral civilizations.

From the municipality of Abaetetuba, in northeastern Pará, visitors will be able to learn about the versatility of miriti - an Amazonian palm used in the making of toys and decorative objects - as well as bio-jewelry produced with seeds and natural materials, in a completely artisanal way.

Garden of Freedom, with plants and mineral gems

The MAP will bring together representative pieces from all regions of Pará, selected by a unique curation, so that the public understands the production process of the pieces. “The realization of the Paraense Handicraft Museum is an opportunity to show the world all our wealth with the exhibition of the manual work carried out by our people, which carries memory, history, and culture. During this grand event, where the world will turn its attention to Belém, COP30, it will be the moment for people to better understand the strength that our culture carries and its representativeness, in addition to building a legacy of training, appreciation, and opportunities for those who live from handicrafts,” emphasized Valdo Filho, deputy secretary of Social Assistance at Seaster.

Soon, the cultural program (which will include regional musical performances and other events) prepared for the period from November 11 to 21, from 4 PM to 10 PM, at the São José Liberto Space will be announced on the official channels of Seaster. The building, dated 1749, which has housed everything from a convent to a prison, is formed by the Jewelry Pole, the Pará Gem Museum, and the Artisan House, in addition to the Garden of Freedom, the Coliseum of Arts, and the Chapel with stone walls.
