About forty rural producers from the Vale Verde Community in Mojuí dos Campos, western State, participated in a meeting and field day to encourage cocoa and cumaru production on Wednesday (22). The initiative was from the Government of Pará, through the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Pará (Emater-Pará).

For cocoa producer and owner of the site where the meeting was held, Raimundo Ferreira, initiatives like this by Emater are essential for improving production and the quality of life of farmers.

“We have never had opportunities like this before. So, for us cocoa producers, it was very important. We managed to mobilize many producers and learned a lot from the technicians who came. In fact, after this meeting and field action, many others are interested in learning more about cocoa cultivation,” he stated.

According to the head of the Emater Local Office in Mojuí dos Campos, Dalvair Sales, the action is part of a continuous effort by the public company to encourage technical assistance for small farmers in cocoa farming, from management to harvesting the fruit, as well as processing the seeds.

“These farmers already cultivate cocoa species of the PS1319 and CCN51 types, which are highly productive varieties. We held this meeting and then a field action, so that these families can improve their cocoa and cumaru production, bringing sustainability, income generation, and improvements in their quality of life,” he said.
