The "Secret Agent" gets a premiere session on November 1st at Cine Líbero Luxardo

Kleber Mendonça Filho's feature film, chosen to represent Brazil at the 2026 Oscars, will be screened at 7 PM

Cine Líbero Luxardo, in Belém, will host a special premiere session of the highly anticipated feature film "The Secret Agent" on Saturday (1st), the new film by director Kleber Mendonça Filho. The production was chosen by the Brazilian Academy of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (ABCAA) to represent Brazil in the race for the 2026 Oscar in the Best International Feature Film category.

Tickets will be available at the cinema box office on the day of the screening, priced at R$ 12 (full price) and R$ 6 (half price). The box office opens one hour before the session, and the theater has a capacity of 98 seats. The screening is part of the film's premiere circuit in the country, which precedes the national release scheduled for November 6.

A political thriller set in the 1970s

Set in 1977, the film follows Marcelo (Wagner Moura), a technology specialist trying to leave behind a dark past as he returns to Recife in search of peace. However, the city reveals itself to be a territory of political tension and secrets.

Before reaching Brazilian screens, "The Secret Agent" gained prominence at major festivals around the world. The feature opened the 34th Biarritz Amérique Latine Festival in France, from September 20 to 26, after its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received four awards: Best Direction (Kleber Mendonça Filho), Best Actor (Wagner Moura), as well as the FIPRESCI Prize (International Federation of Film Critics) and the “Art et Essai” Prize awarded by AFCAE (French Association of Art and Essay Cinema).

In Latin America, the feature won awards at the 29th Lima Film Festival - PUCP, winning the trophies for Best Film from the Official Jury and Best Film by the International Critics. The feature also participated in the programming of the New Horizons Film Festival (Poland), the Sydney Film Festival (Australia), and the Toronto Film Festival (Canada).
