Government of Pará concludes lecture cycle and finalizes preparation of volunteers for COP30
Human and sustainable legacy marks the conclusion of training for over 1,300 volunteers who will act during the climate conference in Belém
The Government of Pará concluded, on Thursday (30), the final stage of training for the volunteers who will act at the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in Belém in November. The action is coordinated by the State Secretariat for Science, Technology and Higher, Professional and Technological Education (Sectet), in partnership with the Extraordinary Secretariat of COP30 (Secop), of the Presidency of the Republic.
More than 1,300 volunteers participated in the in-person training sessions, which covered topics such as sustainability, hospitality, cultural diversity, communication, ethics, and public service. The training reinforces the role of participants as welcoming and informative agents during the UN climate event.
According to Andrey Rabelo, coordinator of the Capacita COP30 Program at Sectet, the conclusion of the training marks an important stage in Pará's preparation to welcome the world. “The training of volunteers is one of the most strategic actions of COP30. They will be the first contact for many people with our city and with the Amazon. More than just passing on information, the volunteers will represent the Pará identity with hospitality, respect, and knowledge. It is a human legacy that goes beyond the event,” he emphasized.
During the three days of activities, the volunteers participated in dynamics and simulations aimed at serving delegations, authorities, and tourists. For many, the lecture cycle was also a transformative experience.
Computer networks technologist Joe Magave highlighted the strengthening of practical skills. “I believe this stage will leave us even more prepared for the arrival of COP30, allowing us to work as a team and avoid mistakes. We have already had online classes, and this in-person moment reinforced the learning. I am sure it will be a very rewarding experience,” he stated.
Lawyer Maria Clara Blanch emphasized the inspiring nature of the program. “It was more than a course; it was a process of personal growth. We learned about the impact of climate change and how we can be an active part of this transformation. Being at COP30 is a responsibility and also a privilege.”
Engineer and educator Adriana Ferreira Monteiro da Costa also celebrated the completion of the training and highlighted the commitment to multiply the knowledge acquired. “Participating in this preparation and knowing that I will act at COP30 is a personal and professional achievement. I have always been very connected to environmental issues, and I see this opportunity as a way to expand my knowledge and share it with my students, encouraging practices of sustainability and environmental awareness.”
The COP30 Volunteer Program is part of the qualification axis of the Capacita COP30 initiative by the Government of Pará, which has already trained over 35,000 people in in-person and online courses in the areas of tourism, gastronomy, hospitality, languages, security, and sustainability. With the conclusion of the in-person stage, the volunteers are now ready to act in airports, hotels, event centers, and tourist spots, supporting logistics and service throughout the conference.
“COP30 will be the largest international event ever held in the Amazon, and Pará is preparing with planning, responsibility, and popular participation. The volunteers are the heart of this mobilization,” reinforced Andrey Rabelo.
