New walkways in Salinópolis strengthen tourism and boost the economy
The new accesses to Maçarico Beach also offer more safety to visitors, who seek the tranquility and beauty of the Pará coastline bathed by the Atlantic.
The two urban walkways providing access to Maçarico Beach, in the municipality of Salinópolis, delivered by the state government in December 2024 and July 2025, represent yet another option for sports and leisure for the local population, in addition to strengthening tourism and boosting job and income generation in northeastern Pará.
The investment, executed by the State Department of Public Works (Seop), according to entrepreneur Brena Costa, president of the Sustainable and Tourist Development Network of the Atlantic Amazon (Redestur), has caused a significant change in the local landscape.
“The walkways ensure greater accessibility and safety in accessing the beaches, especially for the elderly, children, and people with reduced mobility. Additionally, it helps preserve the environment, as it reduces the direct impact on the dunes and vegetation. For us, residents, and also for tourists, this represents more comfort, organization, and appreciation of the city,” highlights Brena Costa.
In addition to urbanization services, the urban walkways of Maçarico received landscaping, accessibility features, kiosks, concrete and wooden benches, showers, bike racks, LED lights, bike lanes, and a contemplation area for the beach.
Before and now - Oceanographer Juliana Guerreiro recounts that, before the construction, access to the beach was via wooden bridges at the beginning of the waterfront, which made it difficult to move around for physical activities or a simple family stroll. “Now, the entire beach can be easily accessed, enjoying very beautiful areas that were not frequented due to the distance. These government works have brought tourist appreciation to the city and to the beach itself, which was losing tourists to Atalaia,” recalls Juliana.
Salinópolis, on the Pará Atlantic coast, is one of the most sought-after destinations by tourists. Agronomist José Severino Silva, a resident of Belém, has been visiting the municipality for 45 years. “This investment will revive Maçarico Beach, which was previously very popular with tourists. These accesses have become a wonder for all of us, increasing the visibility of the mangrove and the animals. It is an unparalleled natural beauty,” he emphasizes.
Biologist Bruna do Socorro seeks tranquility when choosing a beach, and for her, Maçarico is a great destination. “Since I have children, I don’t like to go to Atalaia much because of the car traffic. That’s why I frequent Maçarico more. Besides being beautiful, the walkways have made our movement much easier. We walk and enjoy all the nature that makes up the richness of the region,” she concludes.
