The debate on "Climate Governance and Territorial Management" opened the Forest Zone this Tuesday (11), alongside the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30). The event is promoted by the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) to discuss research, technology, innovation, and the protagonism of the Amazon.

The technical team of the Institute, invited specialists, and representatives of civil society presented and debated topics related to the mitigation and adaptation to climate change, correlating with actions already developed by Ideflor-Bio.

Actions of Ideflor-Bio in conservation units were presented at the event

Professor Luciana Santana said that the Forest Zone is important for acquiring more information about the environmental activities developed by the State. "These are knowledge that I will acquire and pass on to my students, so they know more about the importance of the Amazon, and so they can preserve it," emphasized the participant.

Nilson Pinto emphasized the expertise of the Institute

The president of Ideflor-Bio, Nilson Pinto, highlighted that the programming showcases the various areas of action of the agency and, mainly, the effort and dedication of the involved staff. "These works have important subjects that need to be discussed. Therefore, we created the Forest Zone to debate these themes, along with the participation of other institutions, such as the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (Ufra), among other agencies and civil society entities," said the manager, emphasizing the institution's expertise in environmental protection activities and the sharing of knowledge with society.

Environmental Protection Quota - The first lecture of the day, on Environmental Protection Quotas (CPA), addressed the importance of the project for the regularization of rural properties with legal reserve liabilities consolidated until July 2008. The speaker of the panel and technical advisor of Ideflor-Bio, Thiago Valente, emphasized that the action is important to show the world the environmental activities and actions of the agency.

"Ideflor-Bio brings to this event parallel to COP30 the results of the work that has been developed for a long time for society. And these works demonstrate that the Government of Pará, through the Institute, has been developing an intense environmental agenda to mitigate climate change," emphasized Thiago Valente.

The second lecture was conducted by the legal advisor of Ideflor-Bio, Elen Moura, on the topic "Climate Governance and Territorial Management: the challenges of REDD+ in public forests of collective ownership." Then, the manager of the Administrative Region of Marajó, Hugo Dias, led the panel "Marajoara Territory: Guardian of Ancestral Knowledge and Climate Resistance."

Hugo Dias said that the Forest Zone allows communities living around or in conservation units to discuss the protection and environmental recovery of these areas. "With this event, we bring these communities to debate issues that are part of their reality. And as a participatory management agency, we facilitate this dialogue between what is proposed and how we can help them bring sustainability to the territories," he pointed out.

Environmental Governance - At the end of the morning, a lecture discussed various topics related to environmental governance, including the Integrated Management Program of the Serra dos Martírios/Andorinhas State Park, in São Geraldo do Araguaia, in southeastern Pará, which contributed to the Ideflor-Bio conservation unit not recording fires for three consecutive years.

According to the manager of the Araguaia Administrative Region, Laís Mercedes, the presentation of the project allows more conservation units to adopt the ideas applied in the Serra dos Martírios/Andorinhas State Park to combat fires. "This project serves as a model for other protected areas, whether municipal, state, or even federal, to curb or extinguish the fires that occur within them at certain times of the year," she emphasized.

Service: The Forest Zone continues this Wednesday (12) and Thursday (13) at the auditorium of Ideflor-Bio, in Belém, at Avenida João Paulo II, No. 723, Curió-Utinga neighborhood. More details of the programming are available on Instagram @ideflorbio.
