Codec holds panels on sustainable energy solutions for the industry during COP30
The company presents experiences from industrial sector companies to discuss energy transition, industrial innovation, and a low-carbon economy
The Economic Development Company of Pará (Codec) is present at COP30 with the realization of two panels focused on the application of sustainable energy solutions and the modernization of the productive matrix of Pará. The activities, scheduled for November 15 and 19, 2025, are part of the official program of the Conference of the Parties and take place in distinct spaces of the Green Zone, highlighting the institutional relevance of the Company and the leadership of Pará in strategic themes related to energy transition and sustainable development in the Amazon.
The first meeting will be held at the Legal Amazon Hub (Room C028), and the second at the Pará Pavilion (Room Miritizeiro), two environments that symbolize the role of the State as an Amazonian leader in innovation, clean energy, and a low-carbon economy. Both are part of the thematic panel promoted by Codec under the title "Opportunities for the Application of Sustainable Energy Solutions in the Industrial Districts of the State of Pará," bringing together business and institutional experiences that demonstrate the advancement of sustainable practices in the industrial environments of the State.
“Codec has the mission of structuring dynamic, sustainable industrial environments aligned with the demands of a transitioning global economy. The industrial districts and the State's tax incentive policy constitute the foundations of a new development paradigm, in which progress and sustainability do not oppose each other but complement each other,” stated the president of the Company, Lutfala Bitar.
First panel: Natural Gas and Integrated Steelmaking
The first panel will be held on Saturday (15), from 12:45 PM to 2:00 PM, at the Legal Amazon Hub (Room C028), and will be moderated by Codec's Director of Strategy and Institutional Relations, Pádua Rodrigues. The debate will feature Paul Steffen, director of New Fortress Energy; and Ian Correa, executive vice president of Sinobras, companies operating in distinct but converging sectors in the pursuit of energy efficiency and emission reduction.
New Fortress Energy, located in the Industrial District of Barcarena, will present the potential of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as an industrial input and transition fuel towards a low-carbon economy, highlighting its applicability in different productive segments of the Amazon. Sinobras, based in the Industrial District of Marabá and a beneficiary of state tax incentives, will address the integration of new technologies and sustainable processes in steelmaking, focusing on energy efficiency, industrial innovation, and mitigation of environmental impacts in the steel sector.
“By presenting sustainable energy experiences from companies located in industrial districts, Codec demonstrates that Pará is already experiencing a low-carbon energy transformation in its industrial base. We are in a process of evolution towards a productive ecosystem, anchored in innovation, clean energy, and environmental responsibility,” highlighted Pádua Rodrigues.
Second panel: Coprocessing and Circular Economy
The second panel will be held on November 19, from 5:30 PM to 6:45 PM, at the Pará Pavilion (Room Miritizeiro), also in the Green Zone. It will feature the participation of the industries, Votorantim Cimentos and Carbon Solution, companies operating in complementary segments of the industrial chain and committed to sustainability and productive innovation.
Votorantim Cimentos, located in the municipality of Primavera and a beneficiary of state tax incentives, will present its waste coprocessing program, a technology that partially replaces fossil fuels with recyclable materials and industrial waste, reducing emissions and increasing the energy efficiency of cement kilns. Although not based in an industrial district, the company is part of the set of enterprises that contribute to the modernization of the energy matrix and the advancement of the base industry in the State.
Carbon Solution, located in the municipality of Barcarena and part of the portfolio of strategic projects monitored by Codec, will address solutions for the reuse of industrial aluminum waste and biomass. The company invests in processes for the valorization of by-products and the generation of clean energy, demonstrating how the circular economy can transform environmental liabilities into new sources of value, strengthening the Amazonian bioeconomy and the competitiveness of local industries.
These experiences represent distinct and complementary approaches to industrial sustainability. While Votorantim uses coprocessing as an energy alternative in cement production, Carbon Solution applies circularity in the management of metallic and organic waste. Together, they illustrate the diversity of solutions that make Pará a reference in clean industrialization and environmental innovation.
“COP30 is a milestone for Pará and for Brazil. It is the opportunity to demonstrate that development and sustainability go hand in hand, supported by clean energy, innovation, and environmental responsibility,” concluded Codec's president, Lutfala Bitar.
Pará: leadership and vision for the future
By promoting the panels "Opportunities for the Application of Sustainable Energy Solutions in the Industrial Districts of Pará," Codec reaffirms its role as a facilitator of a new Amazonian industrial policy, founded on the integration of infrastructure, energy, and sustainability.
The Company's participation in COP30 reinforces the commitment of the government of the State of Pará to transform the territory of Pará into a hub of innovation, productive efficiency, and environmental prosperity, positioning the Amazon at the center of global discussions about the future of the green economy.
