The I-Juca Pirama opera closes the XXIV Festival of Opera at Theatro da Paz
The audience sold out tickets on the first day and the house remained full for the other performances
The last performance of the opera I-Juca Pirama, inspired by the poem by Gonçalves Dias with a libretto by Paulo Coelho and musical composition by Gilberto Gil and Aldo Brizzi, was held on Wednesday, the 12th, at the closing of the XXIV Festival of Opera at Theatro da Paz.
“It is an honor for the festival to have the experience of yet another co-production with the Opera Center of Bahia promoting an exchange between our technical team and the lyrical singers, as well as the participation of indigenous artists who built the scenery and costumes. We understand that our Festival of Opera at Theatro da Paz projects itself to the world, at this moment when we receive visitors from all places, due to COP30, as a stage where real Brazil shines at Da Paz with our orchestra, with the Carlos Gomes Choir and under the direction of maestro Aldo Brizzi,” emphasized the Secretary of Culture of Pará, Ursula Vidal.
The opera featured the participation of the Symphony Orchestra of Theatro da Paz, the Carlos Gomes Choir, lyrical singers, and artists from the Opera Center of Bahia (NOP) and the indigenous group Huni Kuin from Acre.
For the festival producer, Nandressa Nunes, 2025 was significant for the initiative. “We had two world premieres, in April 'Cobra Norato' and now, during COP, 'I-Juca Pirama', which had its three performances fully booked. Once again, the Festival of Opera at Theatro da Paz, in its 24th edition, makes history.”
The audience sold out tickets on the first day and the house remained full for the other performances. Among them was journalist Beatriz Heleodoro from Espírito Santo. “I cannot explain in words what it is like to be at Theatro da Paz watching this piece. It is an honor to be able to watch this show, which makes so much sense to be presented in 2025,” she reveals on her first visit to Da Paz.
The initiative is a realization of the NOP, in co-production with the Government of Pará, through Secult with production by ComArte Produções, support from the Boca de Brasa program, the Gregório de Mattos Foundation, and the Culture and Tourism Secretariat of the City Hall of Salvador. The show had television media support from France Télévisions, and sponsorship from BNDES and presentation by BB Consórcios.
The XXIV Festival of Opera at Theatro da Paz began in April this year with the world premiere of "Cobra Norato - Terras do Sem Fim" and continued with the performances "The Opera of the Amazon" and “All This is Yours - A Celebration of Waldemar Henrique.”
