The Green Zone of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) concluded its programming in Belém on Friday (21), highlighted by the participation of Governor Helder Barbalho and the show by Arraial do Pavulagem, which filled the arena and turned the last day into a great collective celebration. Over 11 days, the space open to the public recorded around 300,000 visits, bringing together debates, exhibitions, immersive experiences, and a continuous cultural agenda.

One of the highlights of the Green Zone, the Pará Pavilion started the day with a special performance by the choir of the Pará Agricultural Defense Agency (Adepará), celebrating the group's 10th anniversary. Throughout the 11 days, the space hosted more than 35 panels and over 350 activities, including meetings, debates, exhibitions, and launches related to sustainable finance, microcredit, and green mobility.

Governor Helder Barbalho emphasized that the strength of the event was directly linked to the constant presence of the public and the diversity of actors who passed through Belém during the conference.

“It goes down in history as the popular participation in COP30. In the Green Zone alone, there were more than 30,000 people per day. The entire city, the whole of Brazil came to Belém to debate and discuss this moment. Having the participation of the population, social movements, companies, and the established powers creates an atmosphere that points to concrete public actions and, above all, builds a new consciousness in each citizen. After the experience lived here, it is no longer possible to talk about the environment without listening to the people,” said the governor.

Culture, identity, and international reception

The Green Zone also served as an international showcase for Pará's culture and gastronomy, reinforcing the Amazonian identity at the center of climate discussions. A member of the Malaysian delegation, Norfazira Salleh highlighted Pará's hospitality and the climatic proximity to her country.

“This is my first time in Brazil and I found Belém very interesting. The climate is similar to Malaysia, so we adapted easily. I tried tacacá, fish, and açaí, and everything is very unique. The experience at COP30 was very positive,” she reported.

Professor and environmental researcher Ângela Maringoli emphasized the legacy left by the conference.

“What was done stays in Belém. The COP leaves, but it does not take away the infrastructure set up along the waterfront, nor the memory of the people. The Pará Pavilion enchanted me: the handicrafts, the architecture, and the food reveal the soul of the Pará people, with great authenticity. Congratulations to them,” she evaluated.

She reinforced the importance of monitoring the commitments made: “What I hope from the COP is that the promises do not remain just in speeches. It is up to us, civil society, researchers, and citizens, to monitor and demand that what was announced becomes reality.”

With the conclusion of the Green Zone, Belém wraps up a historic chapter in the realization of COP30, combining popular participation, environmental commitment, and the valorization of Pará's cultural identity before the world.
