Pará receives the 'Brazil Without Hunger' award for advances in reducing food insecurity
Positive results stem from public food security policies prioritized by the current state administration, which works in partnership with municipalities
The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Social Assistance, Labor, Employment and Income (Seaster), received the "Brazil Without Hunger Award," granted by the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger (MDS) to initiatives and advances that stand out in combating hunger and consolidating the National Food and Nutritional Security System (Sisan). In Pará, out of 144 municipalities, 102 have already joined Sisan.
In the North Region, Pará stood out, receiving the award for the first time, resulting from a series of structural actions aimed at guaranteeing the Human Right to Adequate Food (Dhaa). In the category of Reducing Food and Nutritional Insecurity in the states and the Federal District, the federative entities that presented the highest decreases in severe food insecurity between 2022 and 2024 were awarded. During this period, Pará recorded significant progress in municipal adherence to Sisan. The State jumped from just five to 102 municipalities integrated into the system. Currently, there are already 118 municipalities with formalized adherence, expanding local coordination of food security policies and strengthening the network capable of ensuring adequate food for the population.
“Pará won the 'Brazil Without Hunger' Award in the category of Reducing Food and Nutritional Insecurity. We are happy because this result represents the sum of the efforts of our technical teams, as well as managers and partnerships established with municipalities. It also shows the progress of municipalities regarding adherence to the Food and Nutritional Security System. We have worked diligently on this topic, conducting lectures, workshops, and courses, in addition to expanding programs. The 'Assistance throughout Pará' also allowed us to take our service package to various regions, and all of this led us to this moment, in which we won the award,” highlighted Nazaré Costa, director of Food and Nutritional Security at Seaster.
“This result is the fruit of a joint effort between the state government, through the 4th State Plan for Food and Nutritional Security, with the strategies of the 'Brazil Without Hunger' Plan, led by the federal government. Joint actions have been consolidating programs, strengthening councils, and expanding the training of municipal managers, in addition to promoting the implementation of public policies aimed at combating hunger throughout the Pará territory,” reinforced Inocencio Gasparim, head of Seaster.
