The municipality of Capanema, in the Rio Caeté Integration Region, hosted on this Monday (12) the I Regional Conference on the Environment of the DRE (Regional Education Directorate) Capanema, promoted by the State Department of Education (Seduc). The initiative brought together representatives from the 16 municipalities that make up the region, aiming to mobilize the school community through discussions on government actions related to topics such as sustainability, climate change, and the role of schools in forming an environmentally responsible society.

“Today the I Regional Conference is taking place, as part of the 6th edition of the National Children and Youth Conference on the Environment. This event integrates the national stage, and from here, students will be chosen to represent the region at the state stage, scheduled for June. It is a great joy to see the commitment of students and municipalities from the Rio Caeté Integration Region, which are part of the DRE, participating actively. Teachers and students presented their projects and defended their proposals with dedication. As the Environmental Education coordination, we thank everyone for their cooperation and the support of the DRE,” said Emlly Silva, Environmental Education specialist at Seduc.

Vice-principals in pedagogical roles, teachers in the area of Environmental Education, educators involved in projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN), as well as student protagonists of these actions, participated in the event. Representatives from the Municipal Departments of Education and Environment from the 16 municipalities of the Rio Caeté Integration Region were also present.

Urgency - “The conference makes us reflect on something we always hear, but do not always take seriously: the impact of our actions on the world. Environmental problems are no longer just important; they are urgent. Every school should have a moment like this because it helps to understand how our actions affect the planet. I want to take this experience back to my school and share what I learned in a simple way that my peers can understand. When we speak truthfully, everyone is interested. Many projects here can be applied in our daily lives,” emphasized Louane Bianca dos Santos from the Escola Estadual América Leão Conduru in Capanema.

Rômulo Moraes from the Escola Municipal Herundina Andrade da Silva highlighted the importance of the experience for citizenship and environmental education. According to him, “it is important to participate in the Conference because we leave here with a new perspective. Each idea presented sparks a new question and makes us see different realities, in addition to rethinking what is already being done in schools and what still needs to be adjusted. The impact of this on students is significant, as we begin to look at the environment with more attention and awareness.”

The Conference also included the participation of representatives from the Regional Education Directorates of Bragança, expanding the reach and institutional articulation of the event. The discussions and exchanges of experiences among educators, managers, and students reinforced the importance of education as a tool for social transformation and the preservation of natural resources.

Dialogue - "For the development of youth protagonism, as well as the engagement of other participants, it is essential to discuss topics related to sustainability, climate, and the role of the school in awakening society to develop responsible attitudes committed to the preservation of the environment, a common good of the people and essential for quality of life,” said Cristina Reis, head of the DRE Capanema.

The program also included the exhibition of 14 projects to highlight the most relevant initiatives in combating climate change and promoting sustainability. Four projects, plus one affirmative action project, will be selected to represent their respective Integration regions at the state stage of the National Children and Youth Conference on the Environment, scheduled for next June. From this phase, the delegation that will represent Pará at the national stage in Brasília (DF) in October will be chosen. The event also featured lectures on the topics "Green School: Sustainability and Innovation" and "Public Management: Sustainability and Climate."

National Conference - The Regional Conference of the DRE Capanema is part of the VI National Children and Youth Conference on the Environment (CNIJMA), an event that seeks to engage students in finding solutions to the environmental challenges faced in their communities.

The action is carried out in partnership with the managing body of the National Policy on Environmental Education (PNEA), the Ministry of Education (MEC), and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA).
