Emergency Room on Augusto Montenegro makes half a million attendances in one year
Quality of the structure and efficiency of the professionals contribute to the good results of the hospital unit in Greater Belém
About 500 thousand attendances, for adults and children, including hospitalizations, surgeries, triages, emergency services, and Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support services, were carried out in the first year of operation of the Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room (PSRM), on Augusto Montenegro Avenue, in Belém. The unit, an investment from the Government of Pará, through the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), celebrates one year since its inauguration this Sunday (18).
“The new emergency room really makes a difference in the city's health, helping to relieve the pressure on other units and hospitals, with quick and excellent service. Nine months ago, I had my gallbladder removed and needed to stay hospitalized for a few days; my experience, both with the professionals and regarding the structure, was incredible,” acknowledges Layne Ferreira, 23, a resident of the Tenoné neighborhood.
The decentralization of health services, especially in the capital and the Metropolitan Region of Belém (RMB), is, according to Carlos Vinícius Ribeiro, the general director of PSRM, one of the unit's successes. “Carrying out about half a million attendances, with humanized care, from the patient's entry to discharge, is a reason for celebration. The emergency room has changed the history of public health in Belém and RMB. With efficiency and quality, the patient who enters here is assured that they will leave with their problem resolved. This is one of our differentiators,” he assures.
On Wednesday (14), farmer João Félix, a resident of Nova Esperança do Piriá, was discharged from PSRM after recovering from an appendectomy. “Having access to care of this quality and speed is a blessing. On the day of the surgery, April 20, I arrived feeling unwell in the afternoon, and by evening, everything was resolved. I was satisfied with the care I received,” he said.
The privacy and comfort during hospitalization were highlights for patient Makel Silva, a resident of the municipality of Vigia de Nazaré, who has been treating a Pressure Injury (LPP) since March. “I arrived here in a delicate situation and received care from people sent by God to treat me, from the cleaning staff to the doctors, all attentive and welcoming. Every word of encouragement and every smile helps us to move forward. Having a room just for me was also a wonderful surprise because I imagined I would share the space with others, and the structure is comfortable and of high quality,” she emphasizes.
Records in attendance – Only in April, the state emergency room recorded more than 12.6 thousand urgent and emergency attendances and managed to assist 468 patients in a single day across its two emergency services. A significant record in health assistance for 294 adult patients and 174 pediatric patients. Among the urgent and emergency patients, only 6% needed to be hospitalized, which reinforces the high resolution of the health demands of the population.
Hospital structure – The emergency room has 119 beds, including Adult and Pediatric Emergency Care, Hospitalization Units, and Intensive Care Units (ICUs); six rooms for performing medium and high complexity surgeries, including minimally invasive procedures, such as video laparoscopies, which ensure shorter hospitalization times, less exposure to infections, and quicker recovery.
Unit generates about a thousand jobs – Nurse Thiago Ribeiro is one of the staff members at the emergency room, which employs 529 permanent employees from the Instituto Acqua, which manages the unit, 183 outsourced employees, and 200 doctors, generating nearly a thousand jobs directly and indirectly in the labor market.
After facing a depressive process, the nurse says that the opportunity to work in the emergency room changed his life for the better. “Working here made me recognize myself, find myself again. I was born to work in assistance. I love what I do, just like my colleagues, which is why patients receive all the care, love, and affection in their treatment. This humanized welcome makes all the difference; patients say they feel stronger to continue with their treatment. There is nothing more gratifying than hearing patients' accounts about their treatment,” says Thiago Ribeiro.
