The initiative reinforces HRPL's commitment to promoting safe and quality practices in caring for the local population

Focusing on the continuous improvement of assistance and user safety, the Regional Public Hospital of the East (HRPL), in Paragominas, held a special program this May to raise awareness about the importance of hand hygiene. The action, titled "It Can Be Gloves, But It's Always Hand Hygiene!", included interactive dynamics that involved about 200 employees from different sectors of the hospital. The initiative reinforces HRPL's commitment to promoting safe and quality practices in caring for the local population.

The fifth international patient safety goal, established by the Joint Commission International (JCI) and adopted in Brazil by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), seeks to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections. This goal emphasizes the importance of hand hygiene as an essential preventive measure, highlighting the significance of the initiative.

The campaign was organized by the Hospital Infection Control Service (SCIH), the Permanent Education Center (NEP), and the Patient Quality and Safety Center (NQSP).

"Educational practices are important in the hospital environment to keep our employees updated and in constant development, especially when it comes to international patient safety goals. Offering training in a more playful way encourages everyone to participate more actively, as well as fostering interaction between sectors, where everyone can learn together," pointed out Gustavo Silva, administrative assistant of the NEP.

The nurse from SCIH, Wenison Costa, explains that during the campaign, various sectors of the hospital were sensitized through interactive dynamics, reinforcing the 5 moments of hand hygiene, according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO).

"The action promoted learning, exchange of experiences, and delivery of educational material, valuing the engagement of professionals. More than a one-time action, the campaign strengthened the collective commitment to patient safety and the construction of a safer and more humanized hospital environment," concluded the professional.

Furthermore, for Beatriz Leônidas, a nurse from SCIH, "the main message was clear and objective: using gloves does not replace hand hygiene. Each friction with hand sanitizer or washing with soap and water is an act of protection — for the patient, for the professional, and for everyone involved in care. Hand hygiene is more than a protocol: it is a gesture of respect for life," she emphasized.

Approval - User Manoel Pereira de Souza, 64 years old, praised the service received at HRPL, highlighting the welcoming atmosphere, the excellence of the service, and the empathetic, polite, and respectful communication of the professionals. "I am very satisfied and feel safe," said the gardener.

Recognition - This year, HRPL received the state certification on "Health Services 2025", granted by the State Department of Public Health of Pará (Sespa). The recognition confirms that the institution maintained regularity in reporting Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) throughout 2024, contributing to the monitoring and prevention of adverse infectious events in the state.

Data - Between January and December 2024, the multiprofessional team of HRPL performed 177,132 services, in addition to achieving an average user satisfaction rate of 97.83%.
