“When I entered the course, I had a very limited view of what pedagogy was. I thought it was something restricted to the school environment. But as I got to know other possibilities of pedagogical practice, I had the opportunity to come here and live a very enriching experience. I spent two years at Santa Casa and learned a lot from the projects developed here, especially the pedagogy in the hospital environment. It’s wonderful.”

The statement is from Pedagogy student Thaysse Melo, one of the 14 interns participating in the pedagogical action project at Santa Casa. They join the professionals from the institution and other partner entities, such as the State University of Pará (UEPA) and the State Department of Education (SEDUC), in a proposal that goes far beyond the traditional classroom.

The presence of the pedagogue in the hospital encompasses different fronts: from educational support to hospitalized children and adolescents to acting in the areas of people management, teaching, research, and continuing education. Pedagogue Rosilene Gonçalves, from the People Management Coordination of Santa Casa, explains:

“We have pedagogues working in people management, training and development, teaching, research, and extension. We also have professionals in the Hospital Class, a program developed in partnership with SEDUC and Santa Casa. The concern with education extends from hospitalized children to the ongoing training processes of our health workers,” she emphasizes.

Dialogue Circle

In celebration of Pedagogue Day, celebrated this Tuesday (20), Santa Casa held a special program focused on valuing pedagogical action in the hospital context. The agenda included a playful-pedagogical activity with children and adolescents attended in the outpatient clinic and a Dialogue Circle with pedagogues, which provided reflections on the role of pedagogy in the different work processes of the institution.

In addition to the Santa Casa team and the interns, teachers from the Hospital Class of SEDUC and representatives from UEPA participated in the program, strengthening the integration between the institutions and reaffirming the importance of the presence of the pedagogue in multiple social contexts.
