Agents from the Candiru Base seize drugs and arrest two people on a vessel in Baixo Amazonas

In the early hours of this Wednesday, 21, a couple was arrested and 12 blocks of skunk marijuana were seized during an integrated inspection by agents operating at the Candiru River Base, on a vessel originating from Terra Santa heading to Santarém.

“We are pleased with the results obtained daily from inspections at the river bases, knowing that by further improving strategies and actions we will continue to dismantle crime and ensure safety in these regions. In the early hours of today, another seizure was made, being the sixth only in May. This time, 13.300 kg of skunk was seized from the bags of a couple traveling on a vessel bound for Santarém. The two were caught in the act and the material was removed from circulation. We emphasize that we remain firm in combating trafficking and all other crimes that are articulated in the river network of our state,” said Ualame Machado, Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense of Segup.

The seizure occurred around 2:20 AM on this Wednesday, 21, during an approach to the vessel F/B Cidade de Terra Santa, which was navigating the Amazon River in front of the municipality of Óbidos. During the searches on the second deck, agents from the River Group integrated with Civil and Military Police, Fire Department, and Federal Revenue servers, with the assistance of the PMPA Sniffer Dog, identified two heavy bags, where they found 12 blocks of skunk marijuana weighing 13.300 kg.

The police acted in the act against the couple, owners of the bags, for the crime of drug trafficking and presented them to the Civil Police at the Candiru Base for the necessary procedures.

Seizures

In 21 days of May, six enforcement actions resulted in drug seizures, totaling 198.36 kg.

In the first four months, only in actions from the Candiru Base, more than 500 kg of narcotics were seized.
