From this Wednesday (21) to Friday (23), the local office of the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Pará (Emater) in Limoeiro do Ajuru, in Baixo Tocantins, is delivering at its headquarters, in the Pratinha neighborhood, 110 national registrations of family agriculture (cafs) for fishermen from the regions of Beiradão de Baixo, Furo do Ipixuna, and the rivers Japiim Grande Limoeiro and Tocantins to enjoy immediate access to rural credit.

The estimated amount is around R$ 2 million, through line B of the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf). Emater informs that the documentation drive is in support of financing proposals developed by the operator Cactvs, accredited by Caixa Econômica Federal (Cef), and based on demands from the Association of Artisanal Fishermen of Limoeiro do Ajuru (Aspala).

Individual contracts are worth, on average, R$ 12,000, and will be directed towards the management of native açaí groves and the purchase of artisanal fishing gear.

“For me, Emater is a friendship and a goodwill: it is doing me a lot of good, it gives me support,” summarizes Vanja Maria da Costa, 60, a resident of the Cuba neighborhood.

Weekly, the fisherwoman goes out in a “casco” (boat hull) or with a small outboard motor on the Limoeiro River in search of mapará and white fish. During full moons, a time of “good tide,” according to her, she can accumulate 40 kilos of fish at once. The rural credit has been reserved for the acquisition of a new matapi, for capturing regional shrimp. “It’s a resource to replace, renew my tools,” she explains.

According to the head of the local Emater office in Limoeiro do Ajuru, agricultural technician and agronomist Edir Antônio Queiroz, the role of Emater in this specific action is to identify, mobilize, and enable the beneficiary public: “Emater is responsible for the selection and issuance of cafs, the foundational document for access to any public policy in the family agriculture segment. All this movement that unites the Government of Pará and the federal government is a unique incentive for artisanal fishing and the floodplain açaí of the municipality,” he informs.
